Finally F-ing Friday! in These Foolish Things

It’s August already! The last few weeks have slipped by. In fact, yesterday I finally realized it was August the THIRD and I’d forgotten to pay my rent! I never do that. I’m definitely a little off so far this month. Wonder what the stars have to say about that?

As you know, it took me the whole of last weekend to recover from Las Vegas - I’m thinking that this weekend is going to be another recovery week with a few twists. More on the twists in a moment…

It’s been a crazy week. Monday and Tuesday were spent prepping for a big presentation at MASSIVE RETAILER. Wednesday was a Churn-n-Burn to MASSIVE RETAILER, starting with a 6:30 am flight there and a 5 pm flight back home. That made Wednesday a very long day. Still, the meeting went well and I got 1/2 hour longer face time with the buyer and his team than what he’d originally said, which smells like possible good news to follow.

[Side note: I may not have all the passion in the world regarding my current job, but I AM passionate about product design and development, and the line that I worked extremely hard on creating went over well - and that makes me super proud!]

The workday ended with a beer at the airport with VP of Sales who I actually like very much (this is a first, you guys…might I be changing a little?). He’s extraordinarily smart and thoughtful and I think that makes all the difference in the world for me. He’s not some jackhole, which I’ve found is the normal modus operandi for the type of sales guy I usually work with. This guy actually thinks like a chess player, five to six moves ahead and what will bring the best outcome to all parties, and he’s able to make these ideas understandable. And he’s also very hands-on and not afraid to get down and dirty with the worker bees. Good guy.

Anyway, yesterday was exhausting with a million follow-ups from Wednesday’s meeting, including getting Boss all up to speed. And today is Friday, but not just an ordinary slide-into-the-weekend kind of Friday. No. It’s another one of those frantic, get-everything-done-by-5pm kind of days.

I have zero plans for tonight, so I’ll get to bed early simply because of the crash from the work week. We’ll see if I can wake up early to get the apartment cleaned up.

Tomorrow is Martini’s 3rd BIRTHDAY, and I made a doggy cake for her and have props to take pix and lots of other treats…hooray! Have I mentioned lately how much I love my little creature? I can’t believe she’s three!!

Then Saturday night is Date #2 with Jingle Writer. You guys. I bet I could have an immediate boyfriend if I wanted him. He’s been texting and calling just to say hi and to tell me how wonderful he thinks I am and how he can’t wait to see me on Saturday night. At the suggestion of Athena’s writer friend, S., I’ve been reading Aziz Ansari’s book, Modern Romance which has some interesting statistical insights about dating today vs. during other times in history. We are SO much more critical now than we were, say 40 or 50 years ago when people met and married folks from their neighborhoods and such. We’re so jaded and worn out from this online and app dating bullshit and none of us want to try very hard at all!

So to come across a guy who is actually texting and calling (which should be normal and totally common in the world of dating) is to come across something of a unicorn in today’s realm - which is pretty sad - especially since I’m clearly not as excited about him as he is about me. But I will go and I will also probably enjoy myself very much.

I just can’t shake some of his effeminate mannerisms. Even his phone voice makes me shudder a little. We’ll see…

And then there’s Bachelor Party Marty, who will Not. Give. Up. He is sooooooo persistent that I’ve agreed to go to brunch with him on Sunday. And his suggestion for a brunch spot gives me a little pause because it’s a place that neither near my place or his (it’s kinda in between both of our places), which makes me wonder if he’s actually looking for more than just Cougar Nookie?? Like, the guy wants to date? Which confuses me since he’s such a hottie sexy love muffin. Hmmmm. Does he like me like me? I wonder…

So, there’s things going on this weekend, see?! Confusing things and things that make me a little nervous. But the good news is that I’m actually nervous and not just staring into a weekend full of nothingness!

Oh, and plans to make for my BIG Five-Oh as well as the Argentina trip. MUST get on this stuff, stat!

Should be some interesting things to write about soon!

xox,
GS
