New restaurants in Food and wine

Over the past month or so I’ve been making point to try some new places around me. I don’t get out nearly enough… and when I do, my friends and I often “play it safe”. There are so many picky food preferences!!
One won’t touch red meat or anything fried. Another won’t eat fish or cheese. Also, I like wine, but one of my friends needs a good beer selection. So we tend to go to the same restaurants over and over....
Not that that’s a bad thing - except that i love trying new things!! i love new tastes and seeing what else is out there.

Yesterday, I posed going to an Indian restaurant for happy hour. But the menu was a little pricier than we normally choose, and one of my friends who is very money conscious said she didn’t have time to check out the menu or make any decisions. So we went to one of our regular haunts (my decision). I could imagine in my head her complaining about the cost. Or that there weren’t good enough beers. Or… whatever. I’m typically the easiest to please, since I don’t have any food restrictions. Yet, they wanted me to choose. Oh well.....

So, today, i tried Stargazy for lunch - a “British pie” place that had opened near me, that I had yet to try. I ordered their classically beef and onion pie. And they had a kale, gouda, and mushroom pie, so I got that, too. I declined on the mashed potatoes, because, well, I’m not a huge mashed potato fan. I probably wanted a taste of it, but knowing me, i’d eat the whole thing, and then feel crappy afterwards.

So, the beef pie - it was good, but not great. it was ground meat, which I was not expecting. For some reason I expected pulled beef. The spices were decent. But the pie felt not quite crisp enough. I also tend to like spices in general, and the taste of the pie dough didn’t have too much flavor. Still it was good.

I like the vegetable and cheese pie better - The mushroom taste stood-out, and the spices were stronger inside the pie (than the meat pie). Although the gouda was sitting as a chunk inside the pie. I would’ve expected it to have been melted in there… or at least more mixed throughout the pie. Based on that, it would’ve been just as good without the gouda.

So, would I go back? maybe.... Although I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to get food there again, unless they had a special pie that sounded really good. Still, it was good to check out some new food for a change!!
