Weekend-Into-Monday Updates in These Foolish Things

Saturday Brunch Club has turned into a smaller group lately, and that’s just fine with me. In fact, it’s much easier for us all to have one conversation together. Saturday’s topic was a little depressing when we got into sibling issues and negative attitudes about…being single, childless…life in general…mental health issues and the like. I mean, it was all good fodder and in the end we ALL feel like we’re doing much, much better than many, but hell, you know me - I’d much rather talk about dicks. And fashion. And dicks who wear great fashions.

Mother’s Day yesterday was just lovely with my parents. I picked a place incredibly close to my apartment, knowing that mom still wouldn’t want to/be able to walk the three blocks to the venue. We valet-parked and walked into the place like rock stars. The restaurant is a brand new super chic spot in the penthouse of a new high-end retail boutique downtown. Out of our league, but I’ll tell you what - those folks treated us like gold. From even before the moment we walked in the door (I’d called and told them that my parents were late due to a traffic jam on the freeway), to the valet, the hosts, the manager, the chef, our waiter, the patrons around us, like…EVERYONE was kind, friendly, funny and helpful. We were definitely blissing out on mimosas, special brunch plates, exotic breads, coffee, dessert and the view! And in the end, mom and I both (I’m a dog mommy, don’t forget) were treated to a special gourmet chocolate bar gift with a certificate attached for a full-sized lipstick in the cosmetic department. This lipstick was still marked the retail price of $35! Mom was pleased with brunch and the beautiful terrarium full of succulents I’d had made for her. I also made her a card that said simply, “We sure do have a lot of fun!” And it’s true! We are not a sappy lot, that’s for sure. It was a good time.

I shopped a bit yesterday - looking for some comfy shoes to wear in Florence when we climb the hills and vales . I walked and walked the fancy-pants mall and looked at every cool sneaker I could find, but nothing was looking right on me. Finally, I ended up at a DSW and found some slip on knit walking shoes that are like walking on CLOUDS!! But! There are no walking shoes in the world that look fashionable. Still, clouds… so I bought these. They feel AH. MAY. ZING. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a shoe as comfy. And now I have to figure out a sassy outfit (yoga pants with detailing, cute tank, probably a fun jacket for layering) to help bring these puppies up to Italian speed. That’s the hardest thing…making your own clothes look cute in the fashion capitals of the world! More to follow, I’m sure.

Tonight I meet my prospective new financial advisor. Is it weird that us getting together tonight feels more like a date than a meeting to talk about my money? This guy came highly recommended by a friend of mine who has a lot of financial “stuff” going on. She says he’s totally brilliant, completely on point, AND really nice to look at, AND SINGLE! Hah. We are actually meeting for a drink! Wish me luck. You may even read a RAFA (Rate A Financial Advisor) tomorrow!
