It has been awhile! in A New Beginning

I haven’t written all week, so I ought to have some news. Oddly enough, I really don’t have much though! :o) The reason I haven’t had time to write here is that I’ve been honoring my Mom by putting a long post about her, with photos, every day on FB. So that’s where all of my “time to write a long post” has been going! Mom passed away on Easter, 39 years ago. Actually, it was “around Easter,” but I don’t remember the exact date. Some people never forget dates like that, but I do. To me it was MOM that mattered. HER LIFE mattered. Her death mattered too, but not the date so much. She was my best friend, and while she was in the hospital her last time, I spent EVERY MOMENT there with her, when I wasn’t at work or in a class.
My Mom wasn’t perfect, but no one is. I do believe she was the perfect mom for ME, though. I’m pretty awesome, so I must’ve had an awesome Mom; that’s the way I see it! If Mom was alive now, she would be in her mid-nineties and I just can’t imagine that.
One after-effect of having my Mom die before she reached old age is that I lack the most obvious role model any woman has, for how she might be as an old woman. My sisters both show me ways of aging, but they are not especially LIKE Mom. Our maternal Grandmom did live to be in her eighties, though. My sisters tell me I am getting to be more and more like Grandmom all the time! So I try to recall how Grandmom was. She was funny, irreverent, very intelligent, and she “said what she damn well pleased.” She did not worry too much like social niceties, but she certainly knew HOW to conduct herself well when she chose to. I think maybe Mom was a more refined version of Grandmom. Mom had a lot more use for men than Grandmom had. I am more like Grandmom in that respect.
Anyhoozle… Mothers’ Day is tomorrow. Joey said he is coming by and bringing me “flowers or something.” :oD !! I will love whatever it is. I don’t know if Miss Carrie has been bothered to send me a dang card, even, or not! I tell you, I think I must’ve gone overboard on always assuring people that I don’t expect or need or even care if I get gifts! Truly, I don’t, but at the same time....it WOULD feel kinda nice to receive something I didn’t expect! I sent her a card on Tuesday! And she ain’t my Mom! :o) But she IS a good mom, and I am proud of her. She’s a good loving daughter also, in spite of minor things like not always remembering to send me cards for special occasions. I would remember to send my Mom a card!! But I do not have as hugely busy and hectic a life as Carrie has, either. Stuff like that really does matter!

Ya know, I seem to be becoming extremely intolerant of stupidness lately. And “stupidness” includes almost everything my co-workers say and do! Most of ‘em anyway. Not Dee or our newest co-worker Sandy, and not Brad. But the rest exude stupidity the way someone like me who ACTUALLY works exudes sweat! They just THRIVE on drama. They have to be blabbing about their lives, making every little thing a great big drama all the time. Mostly they are always blabbing about their kids, other people’s kids, etc., do. They are women in their forties and they seem to have lost their own “selfness” in these kids of theirs. Jennifer keeps her smartphone on her all the time and anytime she has two seconds to spare, she’s either texting or getting texts from her eighth-grade son or her teenage niece. And kids are NOT supposed to be texting during school hours, so she is encouraging this dependency in them. She told me that her niece, Brooke, is allowed to have her cell phone on all day because it monitors her blood sugar and she is diabetic. So????? That doesn’t mean she’s supposed to be using it to exchange texts with her aunt who works in the kitchen! Almost every day at some point, Jennifer exclaims, “oh no, Brooke’s sugar is up!!!!” My thoughts on that are, Brooke is a cheerleader and plays field hockey; she looks very healthy. Diabetic or not, she doesn’t require her aunt to be turning the fluctuations of her blood sugar into a source of daily drama.

Lori turns everything at work into a drama. It’s pretty much the same thing....drama is drama and for those who seem to crave it, any drama will do! These forty-ish women LIKE me, but they don’t like to try to chitchat with me because I just plain don’t talk about anything in my life as if it were a Big Screen drama! And I won’t fall into the little sink-hole they create of their own daily dramas either. If Jennifer blurts out, “Brooke’s sugar is up!!!!!,” Lori and she will end up blabbing about Brooke’s sugar for ten minutes. I’ll just be like, “oh yea?”

So anyhooooooozle.....hmmmmm.....sister Sandy’s son Micheal came to visit her this week. I was sorry I had to work; otherwise I would’ve enjoyed hanging out with them on the full day he was here. :o) But I invited them over for coffee and dessert on Thursday evening and that was fun. We had a great visit. I love that Micheal drives the four hours from Hagerstown to visit his mom every few months. He has an important security job with the federal government, so he doesn’t get a lot of time off. This time he took her out to lunch for Mothers’ Day. :o)

Today was rainy, rainy, rainy this morning when Joe and I went up to Dover AFB to do our big grocery shopping. But it seems to be done raining now. We are going out to KFC for supper. I told him that all I want is to NOT COOK. And KFC is what I have a hankering for! I can’t even remember the last time I ate there! Sister Carol had the same hankering, and she told me that her daughter Stef is taking her to KFC today too. Tomorrow Stef is gonna go to church with her mom, and then they have lunch reservations at some Italian place none of us has checked out before.

Welp, I think this entry didn’t turn out too bad after all! :o) I want to close by wishing all my friends her a HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!!
