Je Suis Fatigue in My Poetry Slams

Eyes drooping and lids so heavy
This exhaustion hits like a crack in the levee
Threatening to break the fragile line
Between awake and asleep
A twitch and a spasm
And I’m back to empty here, empty there
Wishing for just a little nap
But when you can’t snap
Out of a dead sleep like me
You’ll be quick to see
That just a little shut-eye
Requires a sight and for me to try
And I won’t lie
I won’t even deny
That this pain takes its toll
On my body and soul
Driving me to my knees
So tired, won’t you let me sleep
Please?
