I called Julian yesterday morning about Music in the Community. (His only prosective student so far has a crazy, non English speaking father who yells over the phone regardless of whether or not he is angry. We refer to him as "The Yelling Guy." Julian and I were trying to decipher the meaning of his latest phone call to my house.) When we had (sort of) sorted things out, I said "Bye," and he said "Wait - Do you still want to do that restaraunt thing?"

I was kind of hoping he'd ask about this. "Oh - yeah. I mean, if you think we're up to it."

"Yeah - are you free for practice... sometime soon?"

"Well, I have drivers' ed for two weeks starting tomorrow."

"Ah, drivers' ed." He laughed. "I'll be doing that eventually... When I get my permit." Julian turned sixteen in December and still hasn't quite gotten around to taking the test.

"You can take it before you get your permit, you know. I'm taking it with Dave, and he doesn't turn sixteen until August. Heh. That's going to be some good times in drivers' ed..."

"Oh man... I wonder if it's too late to get into that class. That would be funny."

"Um... Well, it starts in less than twenty-four hours, so my guess is that, yeah, it's too late. My mom signed me up weeks ago."

"Hey, you never know."

And you know what? He got into the class. He told me when I called him back about practice. He found out about it and signed up for it within a span of three or four hours, and the class wasn't filled. And people think random, improbable, good things never happen.

Drivers' ed meets every day, three hours a day, for two weeks. You watch dumb videos and get lectured about not breaking laws. But, oddly enough, I can tell that it is going to be awesome. First of all, the instructor is so funny that I litterally can't controll my laughter during class and it's actually really embarrassing. Seriously, I'd pay to watch this guy tell jokes for three hours. Mostly, he just told stories about experiences that he and other people have had driving, and they were pretty entertaining.

Second of all, I get to hang out with Julian and Dave before class, after class, and during a half hour break that we get in the middle of the three hours. (We went to the library today and looked for jazz CDs and French philosophy. I can't think of many things nerdier than that, but it was still fun to hang out with them.) I even have a carpool going with Julian, which meant several phone calls between us after class was over this afternoon. (It was quite confusing, really. I realized that I have a trombone lesson at 3:30 tomorrow, and that therefor I will have to go straight from the driving school to the band room. My dad got mad because this means he would have to pick me up and drop me off, and this is a huge deal because he is incredibly lazy. So I called Julian to cancel the carpool. He said that his parents could drive me to the band room if need be. I pointed out that I needed my trombone as well. He said "Oh, yeah," and we cancelled it, with my dad still mad. Then he called back and said, "Can't you just bring your trombone with you?" After a few comments to the effect of, "Do you understand how huge it is? People are going to look at me really wierd," we established that this would actually be the best solution, mostly because of my dad. So I guess I'm bringing my giant instrument to my drivers' ed class tomorrow. Wow, this was a really long parenthesized thing.)

Oh, and carride home with dad and Julian today - really awkward. Like, really awkward. It was like, "I know, let's take three extreme introverts and put them in an enclosed space together for twenty minutes, and also add in the fact that two of them have never met before, and one of them is feeling grumpy that he has to drive people around to places instead of 'enjoying his vacation' by watching TV all day. Yeah, that'll be great."

Oh well.

I feel like I'm just rambling. I feel like I have not produced well thought out writing for the last few entries. I think it's that fact that it's summer. God, this summer's going to be boring.
