But first: Another fun day of waking up exhausted, super tired, super cold into a village cloaked with darkness. Bah!
The good news is that when I got into work LinkedIn sent me an e-mail saying Cyclone City is hiring a City Attorney. That would be excellent… truly an ideal situation. Problem. They require a Law School Transcript and a Writing Sample. Law School transcript I can probably track down… but riddle me this… they ask for candidates with 3 years of experience. 3 Years of Experience PLUS Law School Transcript just… seems like a weird request. “We want you to have worked professionally for a while but hey, how did you do in school way back when?” Odd. They also request a Writing Sample. A writing sample wouldn’t be such a big deal but for the fact that my professional experience has been entirely limited to this Village; therefore, no legal writing has really been required. Fear not, I refuse to simply not apply to something that could be an ideal situation… but it certainly adds more work and more hoops. I’ll have to track down (and/or purchase) my transcripts again and try to create a Legal Writing Sample from whole cloth. SUCH an ideal situation but… considering the additional requirements and the damned near essential concept that nobody gets hired without networking and/or nepotism… I’m certainly not hoping for much. That being said… this really could be such an ideal situation… and as ANY opportunity is becoming more and more difficult to come by… a good opportunity just… well… obviously, I really want this to work out. And the more likely it is that The Board will hire Ren, the less likely it is that Up North County will be anything positive in my life. So… I’m really calling on all the spiritual powers in existence that ever have or ever will wish to intercede on my behalf and asking them to give me aid here.

Make up a new holiday and explain its significance.

I have a few thoughts on this. So here are two:

(1) Literary Awareness Day. A day for everyone to read for a few hours (whether that gets you through a chapter, a book, or a series). BUT after reading; no matter if you are at work or at home or in a coffee shop… at 4:00 p.m. you stop reading and join a small group of people discussing what they read that day. Yes, it is kind of forcing a weird little Book Club… but it would support literacy, continued learning, community, and conversation. All important. Essentially, taking a world of people that are toiling by themselves and spending their time on TV and making them spend some time in the written word and with other people.

But… that is a weird one and I understand if people object.

(2) Class Awareness Week
This one, honestly, could be amazing for people. Take school children between 10 and 17 and split them up by Economic Indicators. Literally, figure out which kids would fall into which Economic Class. Then assign them internships in a different class. The rich kid who spends his summer at the country club? Have him intern with the school janitor. The poor kid who spends his nights mopping up his family’s restaurant? Have him intern in a Fortune 500 Company. It may not breed understanding… it may not give the kids a proper form of perspective… but it might. And at the very least, after 7 years of Mixed Internship Experience… each kid would have a better understanding of how The World Around Them works; instead of just their own little segment. Best of all… it could help people find something they love instead of just something they feel forced to do. Maybe Rich Trust Fund Boy falls in love with Factory Work and wants to do that for his life. Maybe Min Wage Girl discovers a passion for medicine and wants to become a Neurosurgeon. It could foster understanding and might… just might… impact how people see other economic classes and the wage gap.

Make up a new holiday and explain its significance.

Good luck with the job application. Yes, it's annoying when no contacts/networking and all the random docs they require. But, nothing ventured, nothing gained! :) I like the idea of the book club gathering, but what if you discuss the book and someone has read ahead of you? Then it would be a spoiler. lol

I love to read so I like the book idea but since I do not go out much to see people , I would have a hard time finding someone to discuss what I read with:-( Frank doesn't read and rarely enjoys hearing what I read about :-( .
I do think it would be educational and enlightening for kids to get the opportunity to work briefly in all kinds of work situations before they enter the work force or decide on a career. So many have no idea what the career they choose entails in reality and then they often force themselves to work it anyway; hating what they do every single day :-( Our educational system does a very poor job preparing children to live as adults working in an occupation. It's fine to say that should be their parent's responsibility but too many parents are in the same boat and can not really offer their kids alternatives or opportunities to get a wide range of experiences.
