So I chatted with daughter last night, first time since the weirdness, I mean the weirdness between her and I, general weirdness is pervasive in perpetuity. You can disagree with that statement, the latter, it’s possible we live in very different worlds.
It was a text chat which made less sense to me years ago, and, still, when driving, it makes a lot more sense to talk than text. Now, and last night, it made sense. She was at a concert. Listening and texting is an easy multi-task. Um, an outdoor concert, so it’s not like she was missing seeing … someone famous (perhaps I’m cynical in my old age and my young age, but famous people are sometimes kind of interesting on stage, but it’s really the live version, the rocking or whatevering without a net. The ones that put on a good stage show usually play the music the same way. David bowie was an exception, pink Floyd was the rule, the grateful dead? Looked like old hippies picking string instruments and shit.)
We chatted for about an hour over what song for the father daughter dance at wedding. It got a bit silly, some on purpose, some just silly. She’s been planning the serious shit of this wedding. My best suggestions were already part of the ceremony. This is how weird the conversation was; the following two are our top picks;
Oops, yikes. Lots of reasons to veto the second one. I guess we forgot all the lyrics. “Did you do too many Drugs?” will make her mom mad, and all the holding and prom stuff … not appropriate. Her first pick was ‘On a rainy night in soho’ which she vetoed before talking to me because it’s a love song, not a father daughter dance song.
Shut up it’s harder to do than it looks. I can’t dance. No I’m not being modest and yes I’ll do it anyhow. To all you “dance like nobodies looking” folks out there, I always do, doesn’t mean I can dance. Biomechanically I have a few issues, but, it’s more a complete lack of grace. I’ve got lots of grace, just not in my hips or shoulders. I could write you a graceful eulogy that’d make death himself cry, and I will if you point and laugh when I dance.
I think this should be the song. Even I can’t trip over this beat
