Name: Kelly

Age: 51

Status: Divorced. A few serious relationships. Had lived with recent ex-girlfriend in Los Angeles before moving “back home” (here) a year ago to help take care of his ailing mother.

Job: Salesguy (strike one) for textiles company (earned back ½ point)

Lives: In the up-and-coming cool part of town. Owns a house in an area where I’d love to own as well (bonus).

Length of Date: 2 hours. We both showed up early (extra credit!)

He Looked: Short. I purposely wore tall heels as a point to show that (a) I’m tall, and (b) I like to wear shoes that make me even taller. He didn’t smile in any of his profile photos, and there’s a reason why: he has really messed up teeth. He was a sharp dresser, however, and I liked that.

I Looked: I’ve decided that this Spring and Summer is going to be the season of OTS – Off-The-Shoulder tops and dresses. So I wore a black, flowy OTS top over super skinny jeans (I’m finally back down in the 120s and there was zero muffin top happenin’ - hooray); shiny, metallic extra-tall pumps; accessorized with long gemstone necklace and gold hoop earrings. Not bad for not really trying all that hard.

We Did: Met at the entertainment district in between our two places. WOW – has this place really transformed since it first opened. Tons of construction and potential new places to go. We walked around for just a bit and ended up at one of the less crowded open-air restaurants at the bar. We had drinks. Champagne for me and Shiraz for him. I drank one and realized that I needed to get something in my stomach because I haven’t been eating much lately. One glass of champagne got me really buzzed. So we got a charcuterie board and it was perfection. One more glass of champagne for me and I was done, done, done. We talked a lot. He is very, very interesting! Not only a salesman (he actually just kind of fell into that position), but he was a radio personality in his 20s here locally, was in a PLANE CRASH and survived, moved to Los Angeles to write screenplays and recently moved back to town to take care of his dying mother. I guess she died recently – I didn’t ask in case it was very recent – and he’s trying to find his way back around this town since he’s been back.

First Impression: Was absolutely not. But then I decided to suck it up and enjoy, if only for a little bit. He’s a very lovely man.

High Point: Just enjoying the conversation completely.

Low Point: No sparks whatsoever. And knowing that no sparks = it will go nowhere.

He Stipulated: I like punctual

I Stipulated: I like…something else.

How It Ended: After our second drink, I was absolutely finished, and I know he could tell. He even told me at the end of the date that it’s OK if we’re not a match. I was honest with him and told him that I had a lovely time, but I wasn’t quite sure that we are right for each other. He insisted on paying for our drinks/charcuterie while I fumbled my way through the new valet app (there’s an app for everything) and he walked me to the valet stand. We went our separate ways.

Chances Are: Nil. He was nice and I had a pleasant time, but I’m not into him at all :(

Until the next one,
GS
