Filmspotting, my favorite film podcast, reviewed this movie a few weeks ago and had rave reviews for the leading lady, Charlotte Rampling. This is a quiet, slice of life film about a couple about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. The husband gets a letter giving him some information on his first love, who died in 1962. Along the way the wife finds out a secret he had been keeping from her about his first love and this movie chronicles their individual reactions, as well as how they deal with this together.

I love movies that have neutral or sad endings and this one, while not particularly sad, did not resolve. Much like our day-to-day lives, they struggle to communicate, try to make love (somewhere near the age of 70!) and find that love they have tried to maintain over 45 + years.

I only cried a couple times :) Next time i need to watch a non-crying movie.
