March 4 in These Foolish Things

I rate this day a 5.5.

Day 4, no alcohol. Has been easy so far - even though I’m at a trade show! Vendor dinners and such, people wanting to party. And all I’ve wanted to do is come back to the hotel and crawl into bed.

Long, long day standing on my feet. Meetings and bullshit.

Oh, and I’m watching my boss fall apart and screw up left and right. Long story - this guy is suffering from the emotional trauma of losing his daughter last year (she was only 17), and he’s drinking and partying his ass off to the point where it’s affecting his job. Horrible to watch.

Our show starts at 9AM. The whole crew had gotten to the booth by 8:30, latest. And at ten ‘til nine, Boss sends me a text asking what time the show starts!! I told him 9:00 and that everyone was already at the booth. Not only that, he had a meeting at 9. He missed the whole thing, and it was super awkward when he walked in. CEO was part of the meeting he missed. He literally walked right past their meeting without saying anything! Ugh. I think it’s only a matter of days until he’s gone.

Things could get ugly before they get better.

But there were some bright spots to the day…

Cool thing is that an old friend and former colleague who lives in London just happens to be in town attending a different convention here. She saw me post a couple of things on FB and contacted me. I snuck out of the booth (actually, she made her way to my booth!) and we had a quick bite and a quick talk and a quick hug. Was fun!

And having Best Bud at work is simultaneously a blast and weird. I’d missed her energy, but she also hasn’t changed in 20 years. She’s hyper and wacky, and though it’s tons of fun, I’m not always in the mood for that.

Anyway, it’s late and I’m exhausted.

Just talked with the Bulldog. The weather is super nasty back home, and I think it’s totally affecting him. I need for his sads to go away - I can barely handle it.

One more thing. SexyPants has reactivated his FB account, and he was suggested as a friend. UGH. I can’t deal with that, but of course I clicked around.

All in all, a strange and interesting day.

Love you,
GS
