End-of-Year Survey, 2014 in Trichotomy

Happy New Year. I figure I’d do this first before posting an actual entry…


  1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?

    Go on a river cruise. Perform with one hand at Carnegie Hall. Pilot a cardboard boat. Had a rat sneeze rat snot all over my face.

  2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

    Did not make resolutions.

  3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

    Lovely Girl had a second baby.

  4. Did anyone close to you die?

    Thank goodness no.

  5. What countries did you visit?

    Just on the river cruise… Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands.

  6. Where did you go on vacation?

    The Danube, the Main, and the Rhine rivers. Also, Binghamton NY for visits.

  7. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?

    I still want a duplex penthouse on Upper West Side.

  8. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

    I can still remember the stress of closing a show with one-handed Chopin Etude, so that was memorable. The river cruise involved many days of hiking and running around old castles and cathedrals, but they tend to blend together.

  9. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

    Not getting fired.

  10. What was your biggest failure?

    La Professeure would probably want me to helping out around the house?

  11. Did you suffer illness or injury?

    I am starting to get more frequent gum inflammations lately.

  12. What was the best thing you bought?

    It’s technically La Professeure’s purchase, but I am using the Big-screen TV most of the time.

  13. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

    La Professeure. Also, the Treasurer.

  14. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

    The Boko Haram.

  15. Where did most of your money go?

    Mortgage.

  16. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

    The Honeymoon. Also, the Les Miserable concert the Treasurer put together.

  17. What song will always remind you of 2014?

    The one-handed Revolutionary Etude. The Blue Danube Waltz they kept playing it on the tour bus and on the ship.

    i. happier or sadder? Happier

    ii. thinner or fatter? I gained about 5 pounds on the week after the cruise.

    iii. richer or poorer? Richer, I think.

    iv. older or wiser? Older, but not wiser.

  19. What do you wish you’d done more of?

    Watch TV.

  21. How did you spend Christmas?

    With La Professeure and family

    With the right person you fall in love over and over again.

    None

    BBC’s Match of the Day.

  25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

    No.

  26. Who is someone you will probably never see again after this year?

    Probably some of the passengers on our cruise ship.

    I don’t think I read one single book this year.

    Contemporary jazz singers… there are so many of them.

  29. What did you want and get?

    A raise.

  30. What did you want and not get?

    Penthouse duplex condo on the upper west side.

    Particle fever.

    I think I worked. I turned 37. Or, in Hexadecimal, 25.

  33. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

    A shorter commute.

    Bum with a wife desperately to make him look half-way presentable.

    La Professeure, Petra, Ballroom dancing.

    No one really.

    No one really.

  38. Who was the best new person you met?

    Singers from the Treasurer’s production of Les Miserable.

    You have to overreach to know where your limits are.

    I like river cruises.

    Probably the day we spent in Vienna.

    Did not make predictions

    Winning a cardboard boat race during the company retreat, while completely convinced my boat was going to sink.

    Henrietta the rat got mammalian tumor. Scary for a while.

    Still having a social life?

    Perform one-handed at Carnegie Hall.
