July. This year is already half over. It’s been a lot a lot.
I don’t really want to talk about it, but I need to write it down for posterity. I’ve always had dental issues. I think I inherited some of that from my sweet dad who had to get dentures at like age 24. I think about my dad and what had to be traumatic experiences his whole life and it’s wild.
Anyway, did you know that chemotherapy does a number to your teeth? So to add to all of my teeth issues, chemo has made my teeth weak and all of the dental work I’d had done 15-20 years ago (I went through a stint where I had to essentially do an overhaul of my mouth) are all failing now.
And that means that another tooth must go.
I found this out yesterday after I’d gotten the courage to summons my angels to help me fix some things going on with my teeth (note that I haven’t had dental insurance for over three years and now I have it again, thank goodness..still doesn’t pay for a whole lot when you have the major issues).
So…I’ve talked about implants before. Got a tooth extracted right before I was diagnosed with cancer and got that little flipper tooth in preparation for the implant. Which is a pain in the ass, but helps with the empty spot in my mouth. But once I got the diagnosis, we had to put a stop to all things moving forward with an implant as it is considered surgery.
But now the tooth next to it is starting to fail and I have to have that poor little guy extracted. So, we’re talking either a bridge of some sort or the partial (I think it’s called…ooh, I sound super old, don’t I?), or the implants.
I know the implants are the best route to go, but uggghhhh I can’t stand the thought of going through the process.
Ah well, I have a little bit of time to think about all this. I did have to have a temporary crown put on yesterday - three hours in the dentist chair!! And I’ll go back and get that seated in the next couple of weeks and then I guess I’ll have several long plane rides in which to think about the state of my world and to get organized for my next steps.
Better go. Need to shower and prep for another long day at Santa’s Workshop!
