Name: Framer Fred (because I met him in the custom framing department at Michaels)

Introduction Platform: I guess you could say Martini was the introduction platform 🙂. I was walking through Michaels in the framing department with my dog in her bag, and he came up to me and asked if he could take her picture because his daughter would go nuts over her (she’s dog walking over the summer as a job). I said “sure!”. Then later, he saw me in the parking lot and ran over to introduce himself and gave me his business card.

Age: Not sure, but guessing he’s in his 40s, maybe early 50s

Relationship Status: Divorced ~3 years

Job: Does some kind of customer experience job for a medical technology company

Lives: in a cute, old part of town that’s a little out of the way, but not bad

Length of Date: 30 minutes

We Did: met at a wine bar. He had a spritzer (I guess because he’d already been drinking and watching World Cup games) and I had a non-alc sparkling wine

He Looked: more like Chris Farley’s Matt Foley, the man who lived in a van down by the river than I’d remembered! I mean, he wasn’t as rotund, but his face is really, really similar, and he was wearing these Prada framed glasses that were strikingly similar to Matt Foley’s, and he did have a belly overhang.

I Looked: Fresh hair, fresh and light makeup, summery dress

Convo: A huge downer. Every time I’d say something he’d give me the negative side of whatever story. An example: I was saying something like how incredible it was seeing all the photos of people celebrating the Knicks win in NYC last night. And he said, yeah, but eight people got stabbed. And then the World Cup was on TV and he’d say things about how our US fans are so much worse than other country’s fans. And it just kept going on and on until I made it about MEN (because men commit 90% of violent crimes in this country) and he got pissed because I was implying that women are far more superior than men (and I sat silently, not disagreeing)…and at that point, he stormed off to the bathroom and I knew the “date” was over. He’s a hot head. I can tell. It was only a matter of time before he started a whole Matt Foley-esqe diatribe, so I’m glad he just put an end to it.

High Point: He was early, and so was I.

Low Point: The minute he opened his mouth. I knew it was going to be a tough one after talking with him on the phone last night. He’s a showoff and know-it-all and kind of patronizing, and he told me how much he hated being in a marriage and that he suffered through. He told me that he didn’t want to end up on Dateline, and that kind of scared me a bit. And when he mentioned Dateline again tonight…that sealed the deal! I never want to see the dude again!

How It Ended: He said that he was going to go and asked if I was going to walk outside and I told him that I was going to go to the restroom before I left. He bought my NA bubbly and told me that it was nice to meet me and said goodbye and walked out. Weird. But I didn’t want to walk with him anywhere - not even to my car!

Chances Are: Nope.

Date Rating: F for the dude, but B for me because I was happy to get to use the time today to get myself together for a date and actually go on one. It’s been a long time. I’m glad it happened because I’m hoping that it broke the dating seal for me here in my new[old] city! Now I can move on to much, much better!
