Bojack Horseman. The end of one of the seasons had this song, and while I already liked the song, it really hit home there.
One of the quotes from Bojack is from the ghost written book by Diane, about how BoJack possesses enough self-awareness to feel crushing guilt for his actions, he lacks the tools, the discipline, or the genuine desire to break his deeply ingrained coping mechanisms. He repeatedly relapses into substance abuse and manipulative behavior because he is trapped between the pain of his past and the terrifying work required to be better.
The song was playing as he drove his car along some unknown highway in the desert, he closes his eyes and speeds up, potentially to kill himself. Then glances over and sees some horses running. Pulls over and watches them.
Huh, here’s a reddit post about it as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/BoJackHorseman/comments/5rrkft/the_significance_of_the_wild_horses_in_s3e12/
I also did tear up a little at this scene.
Bojack is too close to who and what I could have been. drugs, alcohol random women etc. Thank goodness I never got money or power. I did fine wrecking things with what little I had.
Another quote is from his mother, Beatrice:
I don’t wanna fight you, BoJack. I just wanted to tell you: I know. I know you wanna be happy, but you won’t be, and… I’m sorry. It’s not just you, you know. Your father and I, we- Well… you come by it honestly, the ugliness inside you. You were born broken, that’s your birthright. And now, you can fill your life with projects, your books, and your movies and your little girlfriends, but it won’t make you whole. You’re BoJack Horseman. There’s no cure for that.
Born broken. Yeah that fits. That seems. Right.
