It’s Tax Day today. Did everyone get their taxes submitted?

Oy, I was trying to be so on top of it. And I did well this year. After doing my own taxes last year and paying out the nose, I decided to go back to my old tax accountant and use his services, thinking he might find some loopholes for me and I’d break even.

I was wrong.

I ended up owing a chunk of $$$$, which, fine. It’s because my brokerage account has done well-ish the past year. The kicker was, I know that my accountant gets insanely busy during tax season, but I had a few questions I’d asked over email (logistical stuff for getting the thing filed), and he flat out ignored me…maybe he’s even ghosted me??

So I wanted to make sure that I didn’t get any penalties ON TOP of owing $$$$, so because I hadn’t heard from the guy, you know what I did? I went to the IRS website and paid via their portal.

Fine. Good. Done, right?

Not so fast. When I went back to the portal to make sure I was all good, I found another link that told me that my accountant had scheduled my payment to go out today! So that means, I have now paid my taxes TWICE.

A quick panic search with ChatGPT, and I was assured that I would actually get that double payment refunded, but ughhh what a pain to be out that extra $$$$ in the middle of an expensive MOVE that I’m footing 100%.

That’s what I get for trying to be on top of things. And my accountant? I think I’m looking for a new one for 2026. Maybe I’ll ask my financial advisor.

And when I ask my financial advisor, I’m also going to ask him about how much I’m paying him because I don’t even really know! I know it’s a shame to be so naive about money and how financial advisors actually get paid, but when I signed up with him, I was even more financially uneducated. And he’s definitely been growing my retirement savings, and we’ve made something of a plan, but I don’t feel satisfied that I know for sure where all of my money is and where it’s going. I am now at that stage of my life where I can see retirement. 10 years or so is going to come FAST!

Anyway, just thinking about that because it was a biggie I needed to check off my list this week and it’s done…CHECK!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have another meeting to attend at my fancy corporate job, ha!

xox,
GS
