Messages from dad in Adventures in paradise

I just returned from an Easter trip with family at the Gold Coast.  I thought it was going to be my older brothers kids and their kids and my sister and her kid, but I was surprised to learn when I got there that I was the only attendee!  In a way it was a relief, as my grand-neice (wow it sounds weird writing that!) is an annoying little shit who asks a million questions and you can never get peace and quiet when she's around - God help her parents.  And due to Australia's social media bans, she didn't even ring like she usually does (usually 13 times on average every day, according to my mum.)  I swear there's something wrong with the grand-neice AND the youngest neice of my other brother (who is actually younger than my grand-neice) because that one had her classroom evacuated AGAIN last week for throwing tables and chairs across the room.

Anyway, it was lovely to hang out with and chat with my mum and my older brother and his girlfriend (who is from Chile.)  We went to the beach for a while, but it was quite windy, so we ended up going back to the apartment to use the indoor pool.  It has both an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as a gym and a sauna.  It's a shame that it's my brother's last week of living there, as he and his girlfriend are going overseas for 5 months, and there's no point paying rent while they are travelling. I think it's a bit of a soul-searching trip for my brother.  Mum had actually texted me whilst I was on my way there, letting me know that my brother had been crying that morning and that it seemed like he was having another one of his "bad days."  He's had many of these ever since his botched-surgery happened on his stomach and he's been in a lot of pain ever since.  However, when I got there, he hid it well.  He's very good at that.  I think with his job in Queensland governement he's always had to put on a brave face and shake hands.  It's only because I had the intel from mother dearest that I knew.

It was whilst my brother and his partner were in the sauna, and my mum and me were in the pool that mum informed me as a few "weird" things that have happened lately.  And, for her, they were a lot.  Dad would have automatically written-off everything that happened as "a heap of crap", because that's just the type of person he was.  Stubbornly religious, basically.  Mum's religious as well, but not as much as he was.  Anyway, I'm not the best at relaying stories like my mother is, but I'll do my best.

So, as I mentioned, my older brother's girlfriend is from Chile, therefore, she speaks Spanish.  My brother doesn't speak a word of Spanish, but obviously his girlfriend knows English.  Think of Sophia Vergara speaking and that's pretty much what her accent sounds like lol (yes, I'm aware she's Columbian, but it's quite similar.)  My brother and his gf went paddleboarding one day with some of his gf's family, none of whom can speak a word of English (they were just visiting on holiday.)  One of these family members is an Aunty of hers, whom apparently has a "special gift".  She told my brother's gf (in Spanish) that she has a message not for my brother, but for my brother's mother (who wasn't with them at the time, or has even met these people.)  So my brother's girlfriend had to ask permission from both my brother and my mother if they would be okay for her to pass this message along.  She said that she had a message from a man with dark wavy hair and a clean-shaven face to pass on to my mother.

I was fascinated by this story in the indoor pool as my mum was relaying it to me.  Apparently I am the third child she's told so far, with my little brother to go.  I was leaning in to hear her, because it's the Easter long holiday weekend and it was quite loud in there with all the kids screaming and the noise bouncing off the walls.  Anyway, continuing on...

This woman's gift is that she see's images of people who have passed, but only in their middle age, which explained why she said the man had wavy hair and was clean-shaven.  Also, she doesn't speak a WORD of English, had never met my mum, and there was no monetary benefit for her.  My dad had a moustache for the majority of his life, and pretty much all of the time since I've been alive, but mum said he used to always shave it off each time he and mum had a child.  So yeah, pretty crazy so far, right?

The message she had for my mum, translated by my brother's girlfriend, was that, "Everything is totally fine.  There is nothing to be worried about.  I'm totally fine."

Now, if that wasn't enough, mum's always told me that she has not once dreamed about dad since he passed in November 2024.  However, shortly after, she told me, in detail, about this dream she also had.  It was something to do with clothes on her bed in their bedroom and a mumbled sound coming from them.  She kept saying, "I can't understand what you're saying!" over and over, and then she felt a hand on her shoulder, and looked back to see dad smiling at her.  She described it as, "He smiled at me.  And I smiled at him.  And we just smiled."  He then said to her, "I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to find my way back to you."  Then mum told me she "jumped too high" and then she woke up from the dream.

So yeah, make of that what you will.  I asked what Julie (my sister) had said, and she thinks it's mum's brain catching up processing everything that's happened.  I said to her that it depends of what she believes in if she wants to look into it being anything more than what those two things happening were, and that I'd be happy to check her into the loony-bin if she likes.  That made her laugh!

That was a pretty intense story to hear from mum, though.  She convinced me to stay the night, even though I'd brought nothing with me to indicate staying overnight.  I just used my finger as a toothbrush and borrowed some of mums toothpaste.  I was a bit concerned about waking up with a kink-neck, as it's been a bit more lately.  I think it's because I tend to lay on my right elbow on my bed a lot, supporting my head, and it's probably not good for it.

I watched the movie "Hoppers" on my brother's firestick (that movie is actually quite good!) and then watched 5 episodes of the latest season of "Only Murders In The Building" and got 5 episodes in before it just stopped working.  I forgot how much I enjoyed that show last time I was into watching it.

I made my way home today.  The train replacements are a bit of nightmare, as I predicted.  I had to get 5 connections each way just to get there and another 5 to get back home.  I'd glad to be home though.  I just wanted to relax a bit and write out this entry before I head to the gym.

My brother's gf snapped a bit of us at the beach.
