There was a quote from the man in charge a few days ago… “we’ll just keep bombing our little hearts out”. Ugh.
We got the draft taxes back on Thursday and today was the first day my finance partner and I could work on them together and we needed to do that as we each have our areas of focus. We had a productive meeting this morning, but I have more work to do to clarify a few things for the accountant.
It is a beautiful but cool day. I put what was left of the sweet peas out in the cold frame yesterday as we had some lovely warm afternoon sun. I have a new to me Scabiosa seeds coming up in my new little indoor garden. “Fama Deep Blue”. They are perennials so I am curious to see how they do in the “blue” section of my garden plot. I planted three other types of flowers in the indoor garden as well. I am particularly rooting for the marigolds.
The lupines in the actual plot overwintered particularly well. I have one native I got last year that didn’t flower and another I grew from seed from one that flowered a couple of years ago. The blueberries are flowering. I put up the trellis yesterday for this year’s sweet peas. Things are happening. Ready or not.
Having the meeting this morning meant I couldn’t go to the gym at my regular time today. I got cardio on my own early. My conditioning is improving and that is good news except I need to work harder to sustain a decent heart rate for over 20 minutes at a time. Hello jumping jacks.
Last Saturday I ran on the track. Really, it was more a jog, but I hadn’t been out there for a couple of months and after class on Monday I realized I had a very grumpy set of hamstrings. The elliptical and treadmill and jogging indoors just aren’t the same. If you have ever had tendonitis in your high hamstring you know, not fun. I learned a lot though and I am using this as a springboard to develop gentle drills with all the tendons that we overwork as ambitious humans in my classes next week.
Speaking of cardio, I met with my cardiologist this week. I haven’t seen him for a year! Yay. He would very much like to get me back on statins, particularly as there are new lower cholesterol guidelines out now. Last time I had mine checked it was considered normal then but over recommended levels now. I am going to the lab tomorrow morning to get them checked. Fingers crossed I can avoid having to take one more drug. Last time I tried, leg cramps. Ugh.
I had a two-sided filling done this week. They were waiting for the gum graft to heal, and I am grateful for that. I am so done with the whole idea of dental work and with this particular round it was a challenge to keep my mood up. Oh, and it was more than I budgeted for. All these fancy new materials. Bleh. It’s done now. Yay. Again.
This sunshine has lifted my battered spirits quite a bit even though there is a cold wind that is responsible. The trees are blooming. The ornamental plums out front are spectacular this year.
I truly enjoyed the audiobook version of “Project Hail Mary”, which I finished on Wednesday. I admit to “reading ahead” to make sure it had an okay ending because I am not tolerating having bad things happen to characters I get attached to lately. I can see why the movie is so popular. The actor who reads the audiobook does a superb job. It is so funny in parts. My kind of humor.
Last night I discovered there is a second season of “DeadLoch” available now here in the U.S. Speaking of funny. Something to have on hand when I am in need of distraction deep into the week ahead.
Ready or not, indeed.
