The funny thing about recording my targets for the day is that I’ve noticed that for the months of February and March, my targets for “relationship” are super, duper low. They are mainly in reference to my dating life, but I intended to reference my friendships as well and haven’t done such a good job at that.
Especially since I had a lot of “girl time” last week during my stay with Marce and even yesterday, my friend Diane was back in town and we did a good walk and talk and tea together.
But the thought of dating right now isn’t even crossing my mind. There’s sooooo much going on outside the realm of having a man in my life. It’s certainly keeping things a little less complicated, but…I’m also thinking about my move. It would be nice to have someone help me move furniture around and maybe build things, ya know?
When I moved to this apartment, Best Bud was kind enough to offer up her husband to help me with mounting my TV and hanging some framed art/mirrors. I don’t know if he’d be willing to do that again. But I also know that I can pay a Task Rabbit to do that stuff too (though when I tried to schedule someone to help me hang my light strands on the patio, they canceled twice and I ended up doing it myself, sigh…it was fine, and I like doing stuff myself, but it’s the professionalism of it all).
Do you remember the guy I was dating who helped me move and install a light fixture at The Treehouse? I can’t remember what I named him, but the light fixture ordeal was the nail in the coffin for us, hahaha!
Can you tell I’ve been thinking a lot about my upcoming move?
I’m smack in the middle of packing, and that’s why I’m thinking so much about all of this baloney. I’m honestly sick of packing and I find myself daydreaming about how I’m going to put together my new (old) loft space. I’m excited!
But again, the place has very little storage space - a small-ish walk-in closet, a good-sized kitchen with a nice pantry, but that’s really it. There’s washer and dryer hookups inside a laundry room that also houses the water heater, but there’s no extra space in there, and there’s nearly zero bathroom space (ONE towel rack??! And no linen closet storage). So I have a LOT to figure out.
And yes, I’ll rent an extra storage unit on my floor (there are storage units on every floor of this building), so the ugly stuff and holiday decor can go in there, but I’ve just been so used to tucking things like tools and my ladder and cleaning supplies and suitcases, etc. into closets here, so I’m going to have to get super creative.
Best Bud has offered to give me back a really pretty room divider screen I gave her in the past, but I’d never take that back. However, I may end up getting a new one. Here are the things I’m thinking about purchasing (and of course, I’m going to have to secure my new job before all this goes down):
I don’t really have great images of what I’m thinking - I have a few, but they don’t really convey my vision, so you’ll have to use your imagination…
-
The entryway has no coat closet, and it’s a suuuuuuper long hallway that will fit 2 large wardrobe armoires and several shelving units where I could place pretty pieces as well as storage baskets.
-
The entry hallway is SO long that I’ll need to fill the walls with lots and lots of artwork as well. This will be a big design challenge on a budget! Like, I’m thinking super tall floor to ceiling pieces that I’d lean against the wall (I have a friend who used to make these incredible pieces!) or even unique antique doors? I don’t know if you can sense my vision here, but just go with it, ok?
-
The kitchen has decent cabinet space AND a pantry, which is good, but I’m thinking about buying a rolling coffee cart so that I can keep from having all of my coffee accessories lined up on the precious counter space.
-
The opposite side of the kitchen, across from the island/peninsula, is a super long wall that I’d like to use as a feature space. I’m thinking of peel and stick wallpaper, several metal storage cabinets (in a bright orange color as a fun pop), and lots of cool art on the wall. That will serve as a backdrop to my home office desk that I plan to put on the opposite wall.
-
Anybody have experience with peel and stick wallpaper? There are so many beautiful options now. I actually have three feature walls (kitchen wall, dining room wall, and bedroom wall) that I’m interested in covering, plus possibly the bathroom. Thoughts?
-
The bedroom will likely need some kind of divider situation between it and the living space. I love the look of bookcase dividers and/or sheer floor to ceiling curtains…romantic!
-
And then the bathroom is much smaller than what I’m used to, so I’m going to have to get creative with the space. Thinking lots of shelving for rolled-up towels (hotel style) and even an etagere bookcase. I am bummed that I don’t have a separate shower with glass enclosure. Shower curtains are annoying to me, but I’ll get creative there, too. I do love the look of wallpaper in smaller bathroom spaces, so…
And yes, I’m trading storage space for tons and tons of sunlight. I know I can make it work because I’ve done it before, but it’s going to take some time and a lot of execution on the vision.
I think I’m up for the challenge!
Okay, I do need to keep moving on the packing. It’s tedious and I tend to spend a lot of time reminiscing about the past when I pack. It seems like I have a lot of time - my move date isn’t until April 24, but I am planning on several things to happen before then, so I need to get it mostly packed.
My intention is to start my new job right before the end of this month so that I can start my new medical coverage on the first of the month after 30 days of employment (the “rules” at the company where I’ve been interviewing). That way, if I worked say the 30th and 31st of March and then all 30 days of April, then I could start my new company-backed insurance on the first of May.
Of course, that is contingent on an actual OFFER from this company, right?
I had my sixth interview with HR on Thursday. It was fine. Not great, but fine. The HR person was young and inexperienced and I could tell that this interview was simply a tick in the box of the list of things that have to happen before an offer is extended.
I am trusting the universe to make this happen however it’s supposed to happen, and I know I can’t dictate the timing, but man, it would be perfect to start the job sooner rather than later.
And that would mean some commuting on my end and figuring out some temporary housing, but I can deal with that - hopefully with some negotiation.
And the other thing I have semi-planned is a trade show the week after next with the company I’m consulting with, but as you know, they are soooooo loosey goosey and I still don’t have a signed contract!! Yet, they have now paid me for two months and I expect a payment for the third month (March), and then I’d like to renegotiate with them to see if I might be able to stay on with them as a consulting side-hustle!!
But again, all of this depends on this job offer that I’m manifesting.
So, let’s keep up the good juju on this one.
And with that, I’m off to pack some more while I dance to Ring My Bell!
Happy Sunday!
