Sitting in the coffee shop in my “old-old” building writing this entry - the building is old (built in the 1910s) and very historic (and haunted…in a good way!), and it’s old in the sense that I used to live here twenty years ago!!
In some ways, it feels like nothing has changed. This coffee shop is still gritty and cool in the basement of the building, and it still has the open mic stage where folks come in and play live music…the structure of the building is still very much the same, the art galleries and artist spaces are still here, the concierge is still here (though new people, I love that it’s still a concierge building), the lofts are still super cool, open and beautiful. I even know some people who still live here, twenty years later! In fact, just ran into someone just now in the coffee shop! Excited hugs all around!
And in other ways, things have changed. I’m older and less in the mood to flit around downtown drinking and smoking and acting wild. I have a dog that needs to be walked a lot instead of my sweet Tan Man cat (and the hallways are still long), but they have built a new covered dog park, so that’s good. And there’s a new fancy private gym in the basement, run by a famous retired pro football player. There are some pretty buff people walking around right now. And other things. But things that feel pretty good.
I looked at a couple of lofts yesterday. I think I may have actually found one that could be my next cool space. It’s a HUGE corner loft with nothing but windows all the way around…oh, that natural light! I’d get both sunrises and sunsets, though I won’t have the sweeping views I had in my previous loft when I was here way back when. The good news is that it’s very different from the loft I had with my first fiance (or my second fiance, for that matter, ha!). Those were weird times, but I’d also say pretty successful times if I could manage to get engaged not once, but twice during that six year span here (it’s been six years since I’ve even seen a real live penis at this point in my life - I’m not complaining, but I feel like there’s some better vibes for “activities” of all kind in this space).
I’m in the process of writing a pros and cons list of coming back here. It would be a fresh start, but a familiar start, so maybe less of a shock to my system? Or Martini’s - it’s literally 5 minutes from her old doggy daycare, and she loves it there (she’s there right now!)
Anyway, lots and lots to say about this trip, but I’m working on a few other things here this morning before I head to the butt surgeon’s office to discuss my upcoming colonoscopy, so I’m going to close for now.
I AM going to look at a couple more places today, but I am feeling pretty strongly about this old-old place, so we’ll see. More to come…a lot more because I have to tell you about my stay at Marces! And the consultant stuff!
See you later,
GS
