Good morning from what is possibly the worst part of this particular winter storm here. I haven’t yet been outside (it’s 5:30 AM), but I heard the ice coming down literally ALL NIGHT LONG. And that means that the dog and I will be paralyzed here inside the apartment until the ice begins to thaw.
I’ve experienced this before. What happens is that there’s just a solid sheet of ice - you can’t even walk on it because it’s like an ice rink, so even walking the dog becomes impossible. Even getting to the small patch of grass in front of my apartment so poor Martini can potty is treacherous because my front door leads to a little bridge which was already iced up during our last potty break last night.
Ok. Just peeked out the front door. It’s all white out, which means that there might be some grit to walk on, but underneath is a solid sheet of ice. I’m not sure how much has fallen, but the reports are starting to look like ½” of ice. And even that much is crippling.
Thankfully, the power has remained on, and I believe the precipitation has stopped, so that means…fingers crossed…the power will remain on. Please, please, please remain on! I have so much PTSD!!
So. I have a whole Sunday ahead of me!
Yesterday I actually completed the dreaded Excel assessment test I wrote about in my last entry. I did not panic and kill myself to learn how to create advanced formulas and other crazy features. I know what I know. I’ve used Excel and other spreadsheets for the better part of 30 years (!!!), and I wasn’t going to panic study for this test. I figure, if I don’t know it, it’s okay because it will be the truth of my experience. I’ve used spreadsheets to analyze financial data, organize ideas, and manage my numbers and any more than that, I don’t even care to know.
Turns out, I’m glad I didn’t panic because it was less of an Excel test and more of a logical retail math test. There were six tabs of problems that I had to tackle in an hour. Essentially, I had to format several formulas that I already know and use on the regular and figure out percentages, retail prices, and some fairly basic algebra. Yes, ALGEBRA. Yes kids, you WILL need to know algebra in the “real world” once you get out of school.
I may have made an error here and there, but I’m not worried about it because I could actually DO this without much trouble. It did end up taking me a full hour to complete - I am sure others with more of a passion for math and spreadsheets could figure these problems out in less than 45 minutes. I am NOT a math girlie in the least. But the bottom line is, I felt pretty good about it afterwards.
Then I spent the rest of the day doing some organizing (haven’t tackled the full closet situation yet because it’s overwhelming), working out, walking the dog as much as she would allow, knowing we’re going to be stuck inside for the better part of the next few days, watching movies, folding laundry, and playing games.
I’d like to be a little more productive today. I need to get my good workout done and figure out IF I can actually get out and maybe do a little walk or not (I’m thinking probably not), and do more organizing/cleaning.
I also want to send out a couple more resumes/applications. And I still have some updating to do on my portfolio.
So, lots to work on today!
I’m enjoying my coffee right now. May peek in on Bumble for a few just to see who’s stuck at home and wanting to strike up a conversation.
Not a whole more to do in a storm. Hopefully everyone is staying warm and their power stays on. Sending good vibes to all!
xox,
