Is this a thing? Does LinkedIn actually read your private DMs??
Last night, I was clicking around LinkedIn. Ever since starting to go hot and heavy with my job search, LinkedIn has been my social media of choice. And truly, it’s for ONE REASON ONLY - to get my next JOB!!
I’m serious about this, and I’m not messing around! I want to use it in the most efficient way, and though I’m being friendly with my networking, I’m not out here trying to “slide into” anyone’s DMs, ya dig? I mean, sure, I’m messaging folks from a networking basis, but I’m not playing. I’m essentially working.
Anyway, I was on it last night, and a message pops up from a guy I met maybe 10 years ago. We did meet in a social setting, but ended up connecting on LinkedIn…I can’t really remember why? Maybe he gave me his business card or something? Thing is, I was kinda interested in him. Until I found out he was married.
But, he’s in an industry that I’m interested in, so…
I see a note from him pop up. And mind you, we hadn’t messaged in over a year (I think he messaged me a year ago on my birthday and I responded a few days later).
Below is a fairly one-sided conversation. I felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE about it! When he just kept messaging and messaging, it started feeling a little stalker-esque. And maybe LinkedIn caught onto it fairly quickly?
(I’m the one marked out in blue)

But what does that mean? Did LinkedIn intervene and block him from my profile when it started to maybe look like harassment? Or did this guy suddenly freak out, thinking he was doing something wrong, so he quickly un-Linked with me?
I can no longer see his profile at all. Did he just go incognito? Did he block me? It doesn’t matter, really. Unless he can help me get my next job…
Weird, right?
