Day 324 - A Great Body of Great Work in These Foolish Things

Talked with my two cousins last night after they talked to my dad. They were together and calling people who need to know. My uncle’s cancers have spread. Yes, multiple cancers. He’s now in hospice. He could be in hospice quite a while…or maybe not. But at least he’s not in pain anymore. He’s a wonderful guy. My heart hurts.

Dad is taking it okay for someone who doesn’t show his feelings very much.

I’ve been thinking about my dad a lot lately. It has suddenly dawned on me that he is my best friend. Like, he has become the first person I want to tell things to. We talk every evening. And he has always, always been there for me. He’s the one who insisted on being there to take me to my colon cancer surgery, and he also insisted on taking me home from the hospital and staying with me the first two nights…even though I had to do a little taking care of him when he did that. Doesn’t matter. He is an angel. I’m Daddy’s girl for sure.

And now he’s even been doing research on my own job search. Every evening he finds and sends job descriptions for jobs he thinks I’m qualified for. It’s so precious. He’s so heavily involved, so I report back every evening after dinner.

In related news, I’m trying to figure out how to make myself more “findable” (see two entries ago). I’m updating my personal brand. I’ve written a few posts on LinkedIn that have gotten a little bit of traction, and I’ve updated my profile. And even if it’s only a smidgen of recognition, today I received these two direct messages from virtual internet strangers who were reviewing my profile:

Regarding my About section…

Regarding my linked portfolio website…

And they just made my whole day.

Not a lot of other movement, and I expect things to get even slower tomorrow as folks start taking off for the Thanksgiving holiday, but those two notes seemed to really lift my spirits.

Until tomorrow.
