Another Saturday. I want to get this entry in and use this spectacularly beautiful day to get out and walk the city trail with Martini. I think I’m going to do my “usual” walk with her - the one that will take me out on the lake and then over to the touristy area with the fun shopping and people watching. Maybe even treat myself to an acai bowl at the fancy smoothie store that my friend owns.
But first, the entry.
Yesterday was busy! So busy that I didn’t even come close to getting all of the things done that I wanted to get done from an application/networking/job hunt perspective.
I hadn’t really planned to talk on the phone to a former colleague of mine for 1.5 hours, but she wanted to talk. She’d been let go from one of my past companies and was commiserating and actually telling me some things that I’d never known from behind the scenes at my old place.
So while the convo was nice…just long…it also opened up a lot of thought for me. And a little bit of anger about an old boss of mine. She shared some things he’d done behind my back because he’s a fucking dick. I knew that guy was absolutely no good. This just drove the point home. Again.
But that’s the past. Let’s leave the past in the past and push forward, shall we?
I also talked to another old friend from a company I’d worked for years and years and years ago. She gave me some encouraging words and told me of a really great interview she’d recently had with another company. It didn’t work for her, because the job is not quite right, but she said that the job was still open, and sent me in their direction.
I talked with another person I’d worked with at The Cutie Pie company. She’d left the company to work for a giant retailer that literally everyone in the United States knows, but ended up quitting because they went RTO (return to office) 5 days/week and she needs time with her kids. Anyway, she had a few ideas for me. She’s super resourceful and is now working full time with one company and has two side hustles! Brilliant.
And THEN I had a video chat with the head of manufacturing for another GIANT company (who makes clothing for brands that everyone in the world knows!). I was introduced to this guy by my New Year’s Eve date who currently lives in Honduras! Honestly, it’s a small, small world, isn’t it? Of course, this guy didn’t really have a job for me, but he kindly took my resume and said he’ll put in a good word for me if something pops up. It would require a move across the country for me, which is something I don’t really want to do unless I’m absolutely desperate…
But all of that to say, things are moving. The momentum is started. I have a LOT to do, still. But I feel like the butterfly effect is in motion.
In between all that, I crammed in a video presentation from a kid who, I guess, called in a favor from another friend of mine, and asked if she could give a Cutco presentation to me. Have you ever been a part of one of these presentations??!! Long story short, I listened just to be polite and hopefully gain some karma points, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to buy a goddamn set of knives at this time!! But yeah, just another thing shoved into my afternoon yesterday.
So, busy day and busy times. And today will be a lovely walk and then I need to do another closet clean to pull donations for volunteer day tomorrow.
