The cold got worse, I ran a fever, lost my appetite, and spent most of the day sleeping. Later I tested positive for covid. La Prof was sure I caught it from LPCR’s husband (who had a running nose before I had symptoms), though I think I may have caught it in Victoria, where I overexerted myself physically doing a long walk after our excursion. This means I’ll extend my “vacation” to over the weekend - hopefully I’ll have recovered next week. My mom caught covid last autumn after cruising in Alaska too - I’m turning into my mother.

Other than that, we’ve been lucky on this trip - every day was sunny except the day we expected to get wet. We also dodged the Alaska airline outage (happened right after we landed), the Russian tsunami warning (happened right after we took off), and we didn’t lose our luggage - just a wheel on a suitcase.

Overall, it was a nice cruise; though I like some parts of it less than Viking (variety in buffet, the size of crowd, and the style of decor), but all those are minor differences, so I won’t mind going on another Oceania cruise again. They have a naturalist on board, which we didn’t have on Viking. She is an excellent lecturer too. (Best joke, while explaining matriarchal society of killer whales: “who here lives in a matriarchal household? [pauses] Gentlemen, if you’d put up your hand, and she pulled it down, she just proved your point.”).

It was good to travel with LPCR and her family. They are easy to travel with - not too clingy and not too distant. And they are fun. So we’ll probably travel with them in the future.
