As my evening is winding down, clearing the last of the dishes, running a load of laundry and drinking beer, I decided to open up some e-mails to read.
In my In-Box I found a letter from my son and his family. They all spoke of what fun they had and how they cannot wait to see us again. They are tentatively making plans to travel down here when they get their tax refund!
But the thing that excited me most was they said Hayden is already asking if he can spend the summer here with us!
Needless to say this old man was and is in tears thinking that my Grandson wants to spend his whole summer with us!
I dashed up stairs to tell Debbie about this and to lovingly call her Grandma. She is thrilled and amazed. She asked what we would do with him and I told her we will get him a video game player and games and a bicycle to ride around the neighborhood. I have the Honda ATC he can ride too. Maybe I should get a passenger seat and pegs for my Harley and take him riding? He knows I am a biker so maybe he would enjoy a few trips? Damn that would be fun, load up on the Harley and head out for a few long weekend motorcycle camping trips? And I guess I could re-up and get back into re-enacting and take him to a few Battles? I would be so proud to be Number Two and have Hayden bring me the round to place in the barrel of the cannon!
I never knew either of my Grandfathers, Black Lung stealing them away from us far to soon. I would love to be able to leave this young man, my Grandson some awesome memories of me to tell his children some day.
I have tried pushing these people away from me. I have denied them and ignored them, yet they continue to try and be in my life and they love me unconditionally.
I thank God for these wonderful people. My family, my son and his wife, her lovely daughter and my Grandson.
I shall cherish them all forever!
