May 14 - Visualization in These Foolish Things

One of the new requirements of the next step in the 75 Hard program is that you have to spend 10 minutes a day in visualization mode. I think I like the idea of this, and I know it’s sort of like daydreaming, but you’re actually supposed to put yourself into the position you want to be in and experience all of the feelings associated with your vision.

In other words, if I wanted to be a famous musician, I’d visualize a stage and me walking onto the stage and hearing the crowd and smelling the booze and smoke and feeling the guitar strings under my fingers. I’d hear myself singing to the crowd and note that my future husband was looking lovingly at me from the wings.

Ahhhh, yes. I’m a STAR!

You get the idea.

In all of the literature I’ve read and all of the YouTube instruction videos, they say to get as detailed and granular as possible, and I get that. But what if I’m picturing a blue house instead of a green house, ya know? Do you think I’d miss my opportunity?

I do believe in this stuff and I think it’s important because it actually kick-starts your efforts and you move towards your goal/end/desire. I think it’s a lot like having a positive attitude and healing. There’s that Post Traumatic Growth again! But I feel so inexperienced at this or maybe more like I’ve tried it before and it hasn’t worked yet.

And yet, the whole idea of 75 Hard is that you make this commitment and you KEEP showing up. For 75 days you keep going, even if you don’t feel like you are getting results out of it. Because in the end, you usually end up surprising yourself when you look back at how far you’ve come and the actual changes you can truly SEE.

So I’m going to do this, see this, feel this, achieve this!! Because why not? I only have good things to gain from it.
