We spent the morning doing the most touristy thing possible: we went to the CopaCabana beach at Carlisle bay. It was a nice and relaxing beach morning; what vacations normally are. Just lounged on a beach chair for 45 minutes to read and warm up, and then spent 45 minutes in the water swimming. The water was relatively clear, the sun was out, and the beach was completely sandy, so that made for a nice morning swimming. There was a bit of a wave though and there were other people in the water, but not too crowded. Viking had booked off a block of beach chairs so most of us were in that area. On one side of that block was a block of chairs that MeinSchiff booked, and on the other side, a different resort which caters to younger people. So when we were in the water, if we heard German, we knew the wave had pushed us towards one side, and if we were surrounded by people we didn’t mind seeing in swimsuits, we knew we had drifted to the other side. I was surprised how much more buoyancy salt water gives me; I could never float in a pool, but in salt water I almost managed. There were sandpipers looking for worms on the beach, and fishes, I think Anchovy, inside the water. At one point I saw the anchovies disperse and a glimpse of a tail fin that looked like a tuna’s flash by.

We got back and just had enough time to change and eat lunch before having to head up to the afternoon excursion. That was just a bus tour up along the west coast of Barbados to look at ritzy hotels and mansions, before heading to Farley Hill National Park for a panoramic view, then back to the ship. I wouldn’t have been disappointed to have missed that. By now the colonial history of the Caribbean islands are sounding familiar.

On our honeymoon people talk about the ABC syndrome (about people getting bored with yet Another Big Church/Cathedral/Castle). I’m starting to feed the Another Gorgeous Beach/Vista/Mountain syndrome.

After we got back, I did laundry (the ship has a free laundromat, but the operation of which was not at all explained - I only knew how to work it because several people using it at the same time explained it to me), and then went to dinner. By now we are gravitating towards the buffet, which doesn’t take as long, but has the downside of us tending to overeat.

We were going to go to the pool dance party afterwards but when we got there I realized it was too loud, so I chickened out.
