The Expectations Game in Trichotomy

Jaded
When Rabbits are happy, they hop straight up into the air and zip around. It’s their version of dogs’ zoomies. Our rabbit used to do that on a daily basis. However, lately La Professeure and I have noticed he’s been doing that less. Days would go by without either of us witnessing a binky.
Recently he tipped over his waterbowl and soaked the rug in his room, so I had to hang up the rug overnight to dry. He didn’t like the room without a rug inside, so for the whole day he had lost access to the room. When I put it back the next day, the first thing he did was to examine the rug, and then zoomie.
That’s how we know we have a jaded rabbit; he’s so used to the space and treats he gets now that nothing impresses him anymore. The only way we can surprise him is to take away something first so he doesn’t expect it.
The key to happiness is having low expectations.

Deluge
The rain storm yesterday had a period of an hour or so that overwhelmed the drainage in our street; it looked like a river. La Professeure was home at the time (her boss gave the office an early dismissal) and got the idea to check on our basement, and spotted waters starting to pool. Turns out to be a leak in our drywall; I think the ground water level also went up and revealed the leak. So we spent time directing the water to the drainage. Luckily the drainage was near the leak, so it was just a matter of building a dam and wet-vaccuming the water that had built up. It worked, and the rain also let up so the ground water level went back down below the leak, so we only had a bit of dampness in our basement and no damage.
La Professeure is getting something to repair the leak, but next time the rain is heavy we’ll know to go check downstairs.

No Basement
We’ve seen a handful of houses that are possibilities. There’s a raised ranch in Garden City that we both liked a lot, a 10 minutes walk from the train station and close to La Professeure’s work. It’s a nice neighbourhood, and has a decent amount of space. It doesn’t have a basement, so we were concerned about the lack of storage space. But after yesterday, maybe not having a basement is a good thing. However, the house is across the street from the town’s community swimming pool, which is open in the summer for most of the day. It just closed for the season so we don’t know the noise level.
So we’ll pass. But the existence of these houses made us optimistic we’ll find something. At this point I’m hoping we will get something during the slow season. But since we are in no hurry to move, we can also be picky.

Cynical life lessons from the rabbit could totally become a series! 😂
