Kids these days

The rabbit is now always asking for treats. He nudges us to get attention and tries to get behind the desk in the office. In general he is very patient but he has been known to throw a tantrum if he doesn’t get his way. La Professeure had a cold a week ago and has been coughing, which annoys the rabbit. So he thumps his hind legs at her to get her to stop.

I am glad we don’t have actual children. So entitled.

Luckily, there is an equivalent to child-beating for rabbits. They, being prey animals, in general do not like being held, and ours has never gotten used to it. So our equivalent of beating is to try to pick him up, and he would run around his enclosure to avoid me, and I would chase him around for a while. I have only actually succeeded in picking him up twice.

I only tried to do that after he rattles the cage, which is bad for him and annoying for us. After a handful of tries, in a month or so, he almost stopped rattling the cage, and each time he does it just enough to get our attention. So it was an effective deterrent. Though, towards the end, he looked like he was beginning to enjoy getting chased when I tried to pick him up. Apparently not enough that he would rattle the cage deliberately.

Punishment works.

Case for a large metro

La Profeeseure’s father has Alzheimer, according to a scan in December. It’s shocking how long it took for the hospital to diagnose. From what I can tell, nobody looked at the scan till now, or somebody did and didn’t contact them. And this was “the best doctors in town”. This also convinced them to move here.

That makes it easier for house hunting - our house doesn’t have to be mother-daughter because they will both be here.. And it will be easier to keep an eye on them.

On more pressing matters, we went to a conference held by a non-profit to help people make financial, legal, and medical plans for caring for Alzheimer patients. It was helpful, but a lot of the talk has to do with how to hide assets from the government so you can qualify for medicaid. It was a bit weird. In any case, we really need them to talk to a planner.

In other less important pressing issues, we have credit locked up with Viking. I would like to go with them, but now it may be difficult. And we have to book by June before those credits expire.

A lot of our friends are getting into the age where our parents are starting to accumulate ailments; I think it’s part of getting old.

Real Estate Porn

We don’t have travel plans this year and are going to focus on moving. With the possibility of having La Professeure’s parent move in eliminated, it helps to focus the search.

First step for me is always crime statistics. It turns out the town we live in now is one of the safest in Long Island, so no matter where we move, it will always be a downgrade. But we identified a few that have at least comparable statistics as this town. So I hope something will turn up. We have gotten in touch with our realtor, and she has been sending us prospects.

It is becoming real.
