So. I finally received a decision at the end of this six week interview process I've been traveling. It is a good news/bad news kind of thing, and not at ALL what I was expecting.
They decided to give a formal offer to the other candidate for the particular position I interviewed for, mainly because he had 12 years experience, whereas I have two. I'm not bitter about that at all, and I'm not sad that I lost out like that - that's simply a field I can't compete on.
BUT.
Right after the recruiter tells me this, she goes on to say how impressed they were with me, and how their interest level is still extremely high. And how would I like to come do the same job, but at another store?
Plot twist: that other store is three hours away, in a southern part of the state that I've driven through once and visited never.
So, YAY! I have the job if I want it. Same benefits and salary, which is 40% more than I was making for my old company. But if I want the job, we have to move.
And we have until Friday to decide.
It's a difficult decision, with lots of pros and cons to consider. Not the least of which is we'd be leaving my 12 year old stepson behind. And, we're not very financially stable for a cross-state move right now. There would be some moving expenses from the new company, but it wouldn't be enough.
At this point, we seem to have loosely settled on me "for" and him "against", so it looks like tomorrow is going to be a huge day of discussion and negotiation. Because two days is not a whole lot of time to make such a drastic decision.
Wish us luck!
