My attempt at drinking more water and less Diet Coke has been successful, so far. My head hurt something terrible for most of the day on Monday, and I did have one can of Diet Coke in the early afternoon in an attempt to rid myself of the headache, unsuccessfully, but I only drank about a quarter of the can. Yesterday my stomach hurt so I had some diet Vernors, but that doesn't have caffeine in it.
I've also been drinking a minimum of eight cups of water each day. I think eight glasses of water is an arbitrary amount, but I bought some quart-sized mason jars that I've been making my lemon water in, and drinking at least two of those each day has been my goal. I've been drinking closer to three, though. One in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one when I get home from work.
I know caffeine addictions are hard to break, and I'm lucky that I've never experienced much withdrawal. I also, for whatever odd reason, find it enjoyable to challenge myself to break bad habits in my life. That's why I occasionally take on strange challenges (vegan for a month, etc.). I'm a very goal-oriented person, I guess. I always have to be working toward something or else I get bored.
