Monday again. The start of another job hunt week. What week of Funemployment is this? Let me check…
OK! Greetings from the beginning of Week #21 of Funemployment. I’m over it at this point. I am READY to get into the swing of being gainfully employed.
I spent a good chunk of the weekend tweaking the presentation for my #1 target company and then I bit the bullet and sent it to their head of HR. I just cold emailed her and explained that I was attaching a presentation I’ve been working on for the company. I said that in the section in their online application leaves a space for making recommendations to their existing product line, but that there was no way to send an attachment via their system, so I went ahead and sent my attachment to her.
I don’t know if this is very politically correct, but I did it and I’m not sorry. I may or may not ever hear back from them, but it’s done and not making me anxious anymore. The worst thing I could have done was not send anything.
And the thing is, we are a 2nd degree connection on LinkedIn. Meaning, we have several mutual connections. But the connections that I know very well personally, the ones I thought might be able to make a good introduction, don’t know her well enough to make an intro. I know - I asked them.
LinkedIn can be weird.
Soo. I just cold messaged. It’s done.
Moving on.
I have an interview tomorrow with the shoe company. I am now spending the rest of the day researching the company. The job actually sounds really exciting, and even though I’ve never been in the footwear industry, I have been in the fashion industry for years and years and I understand that this market is similar - plus I’ve been in this mid-tier-level business my whole career. As in, NOT haute couture (even though I love designer stuff) - I know how to create and market products for the masses.
I will give the interview my all to get my foot in the door (pun intended!).
Keep you posted!
I need to write another entry about the weekend. Oh, and not-work related stuff that happened last week. Things I need to write about:
- Brunch on Saturday - and a flaky friend
- Neighbor dude AND the Donut Cowboy (remember him?)
- Trail walking as a dating app
- Mom and Dad’s renovation
But I will post this now and come back later!
Ciao for now,
GS
