Rain, a Break, and Oh, More Rain in Everyday Ramblings

We had a couple of dry days, and I am beginning to fill out the garden plot with starts, yesterday, a tomato, the day before a bunch of marigolds. The strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and the passion fruit vine are all getting ready to bear fruit. And next week is the solstice.

I moved all the seedlings out to the cold frame and started a new batch. These are almost all flowers. It just felt weird not to have any seedings going. I get joy out of watching them grow and change every day.

Last year the weather was different. It is so much wetter here now and I haven’t watered the garden at all, except maybe once in mid-March when I was watering in the starts then. And the starts this week. It looks like things are going to turn by midweek next week.

When I teach my evening classes I am looking at the west facing full-length glass door just beyond my iPad. My patio well is about four feet under ground-level, with moss covered concrete walls.

I yelped on Wednesday when I looked up and saw a gigantic racoon just outside said door, peaking into the cold frame at the starts. I have been careful to close the cold frame, empty the birdbath and take down the bird feeder at dusk every day because this is the time for gamboling kits to come for a bath and a snack. This racoon was clearly on a reconnaissance mission.

Without disturbing anything she, thankfully, scaled the wall with her impressive claws, and I was able to return to fully having my mind on teaching. She came back later but by that time I had removed temptation. The cats, who I sequester during these classes, were quite interested when I released them. Reality T.V.

My mouth continues to heal. I can eat slightly less cautiously now. The big revelation this round is how much I enjoy orange sherbet. There is no revelation about how much I dislike the rinse I am required to use twice a day. Even I, a most conscientious patient, have “forgotten” to use it a few times.

It has been a busy week. I took a live class on teaching posture, a live class on yoga for gardeners (I am still sore two days later), a live interactive class with an amazing woman who is a Olympic level weightlifter and a PT and runs a rehab organization and last night participated in a bit of a bomb of an online gathering to celebrate Bloomsday and James Joyce’s Ulysses.

There has been gardening and I just finished my last regular class of the week.

So I am going to chill with the cats and see about making plans for the summer that will be here officially in only a few days.

Those plants look really good.

Thank you for not allowing your bird bath and feeder to become a buffet. 😇 I hope the healing continues to go smoothly. P.S. Raspberry and lemon sherbet are pretty good, too.

Thankfully the cold smooth foods are helping you to eat and heal.
I love raccoons!
