Um… where’s everybody?
Two years after the pandemic the office is slowly returning to normal. My office is going back to part time in-person next month, and March would be a “transition” period where people can go in as they wish. So I went in this week, to work out the logistics of commuting.
Turns out, I was only one of the two people on my team who went in. There was really no point for me to be there; the meetings I had were all virtual, except I still had to run from one conference room to the next. My teammate said he doesn’t see the point of going in; there’s nobody there, and the train ticket is expensive.
So, I stayed home after going in twice.

Limbo
I had a call with the education department’s hiring manager last week. She seems to like me but said I would be a better fit for a position that is not yet open, so she’s waiting for that opening to be approved and then get back to me. I think the first time I switched teams, my manager also had to create a position for me too.
So I’m going to be in this limbo for the next couple of weeks, not knowing which team I’ll be working for.

Trips
We hadn’t had a vacation since going to the resort last summer, just before the Delta wave hit. Now the Omicron wave is dying down, we are hoping to catch another vacation before the next wave hits, so we’re going to a couples retreat in the Poconos next week. It’s overdue; I was hoping to go on a cruise to warm weather in the winter, but that didn’t work out.
We also booked an Antarctica trip for next year. It is exciting; I figure we should see it before we’re too old and infirm, and also while it’s still there. We’re hoping Cheesedog will join us, and it looks like one of La Professeure’s bridesmaid will join us as well.
Between that and the postponed Eastern europe trip from two years ago, I hope these trip works the wanderlust out of our system.

Antarctica!! That is really awesome. I'm vicariously excited about that!
I've been at the office part-time for a couple weeks, and that has been my experience too. Why am I going there just to have Zoom meetings?
