Here are some bullets on the present state of my body:
-
Cancrerversary: We are coming up on a year since my colon cancer diagnosis. It’s a weird thing to think about - the day one is told they have the Big C. And it’s kind of funny, on my Cancerversary (Feb. 4), I have an appointment with my colon surgeon. We are going to discuss my annual colonoscopy (and I guess, get that scheduled) as well as having my port taken out at the same time since he also did the surgery to place the port. That way I’ll be asleep for the upper and the lower invasions. Other than that, some of my cancer friends do a sort of celebration of not dying. I’ve seen Cancerversary cakes posted on socials that say “Good Job Not Dying” and I think that’s kind of cute. But I think I’ll probably see if I can work from home that day and treat myself to a mani/pedi or take myself out to a nice lunch or something. I don’t feel much like eating cake on that day.

Clinical Trials: I’ve been doing a bit of research on how to keep my colon cancer from coming back. After the shittiest of the shitty year I had last year, I’d really like to keep the shit from recurring, ya know? I found a trial for a drug/vaccine that’s supposed to help keep recurrences from happening. I’ve sent a few inquiries in and I’m awaiting a response from a big cancer hospital that’s about 4 hours from home. Apparently, this trial has been suspended in the hospitals close to me, so I’ve asked about those to see if the suspension might be lifted, but depending on the details of this trial, I think a 4-hour drive might be worth it (unless it’s something that has to be done daily or something).
-
Gallbladder Blahs: I’m seeing a new surgeon about my gallbladder next week as well. Hot Oncologist promises that he’s not going to be chomping at the bit to remove the damn thing - especially since it’s not bothering me at all like it was in December. We are just going to do a consultation and maybe he’ll schedule an ultrasound or an MRI, but I’m going to do my damndest to keep as many body parts in tact as possible. We’ll see how that goes.

Back down to Heavyweight: Haha. I’ve made it back down to my upper weight limit. This is the weight that’s my upper threshold, where I reign myself in and buckle down and watch all of my food intake and kick my exercise up a few notches. At the beginning of 2022, I was eight pounds above my Heavyweight weight. Yikes. The Prolon Fasting Mimicking program brought me down six of those pounds, and in the last couple of weeks I’ve lost a pound each week. I’m planning on doing Prolon again next work week (which will essentially be the first week of February), and then again in the first week of March. The Prolon people recommend that you do the program for 5 days each month for three months and then once a quarter after that. I really liked how I felt on the program. I’m excited about doing it again.
And of course, more to follow. I still have to get my mammogram scheduled, my gyno appointment scheduled, and my teeth fixed, so…lots more to write about my body. But I just wanted to get those biggies written out while I was thinking about them.
In somewhat good health,
GS
