author: Beverly Cleary
This author of children's books was once a child... actually in the very early 20th century. She grew up in Oregon, starting in farm country, moving to the city, then moving around the city. Her family suffered through the depression sometimes having close to nothing.
It's an interesting read. Girls and their mothers... a timeless tale for sure.

Beverly Cleary had always been one of my favorite authors

I'm sure that's true for many people. I don't think I'd read her kids' books, but the memoir is very interesting.
