…clearly got confused about her FMLA and PTO hours and had to have a long discussion with her boss and HR about it this afternoon - the day before she was going to take off work for the rest of the year? Guess who will be working during Christmas Break? That’s right, this girl.
I do want to say, though, that I’m not really mad about it. Here’s why. I’m actually in the hole with my hours this year. Due to my confusion with FMLA (hospital stays, surgery and recovery and chemo treatments) and what I had left over for PTO, I was actually in the hole for 36 hours and the company gave me that time back without penalty. That’s something, isn’t it?
I will still be able to have my three interviews that are already scheduled during what I thought would be my break due to a free “floating holiday” that the company gives us. I’ve never taken advantage of this and again, I’m not mad about it. I also thought that the 27th was a regular day and not a holiday, AND the 31st is a holiday.
I know. It’s a lot - do you see why I was confused?
So the bottom line is, I will take Monday, the 20th off and then I’ll work Tuesday the 21st, Wednesday the 22nd, and Thursday the 23rd (likely getting out really early on Thurs) and then be off for four more days for Christmas Eve and Christmas (we get the 27th off for Christmas Day) and then work the 28th, 29th and 30th and then be off for three more days.
I know. It’s not the same as taking the rest of the year off, but at least I didn’t have any travel planned! I was going to stay home and veg and look for jobs and maybe shop. I can do all that stuff at the office - hahah!
Additionally, guess who really did have a Secret Santa? Santa finally came through today, on the last day of the deal. I got gifts just about every hour on the hour. So cute! Turns out, my Santa happened to be on vacation in Jamaica during most of our timeframe, so I was visited by several “delivery Santas” today, each one bearing a different little gift. Guess who showed up at the reveal party and told her Secret Santa that she really knows how to put a person on the emotional holiday rollercoaster? This girl. Guess who was nonetheless pleased? Yep, me.
Things aren’t always awesome, but things really do tend to work out mostly for the best, don’t they?
Guess who’s feeling okay right now? For the most part, I am.
I’m still going to find a place where I’m a better fit, though.
