I'm not a 'real' photographer. I'm a mom with a camera.

So I was a little bit nervous when I was volunteered to shoot new publicity stills for a friend's new corporate band that he had just joined.

I was especially nervous when I showed up at the shoot and discovered that their 'great location' was a poorly-lit gymnasium. And the off-camera lighting I had wasn't quite buff enough to do the work. More nervous sweat when the band manager then said "I'm sure you can photoshop out the ugly floor we're standing on. Maybe put us on a different background" gulp

I took several hundred shots. Many were garbage. Here was one the band voted on working with.

Yeah. Remove the floor? Fix the lighting? Remove the awkward shadows? "Slim down" one of the band members? Excuse me while I go and spend a week watching internet photoshop tutorials.

Today, I couldn't put it off any longer. They are about to go off to play an international gig, and need new publicity stills. Time to put the big girl panties on, and see what I've learned.

Honestly, when I was done I wanted to dance around the block, blowing on a loud trumpet and shouting "Look what I did!" Even though it's probably pretty basic, and bordering on a 'photoshop disaster' calibre. But I did it. And I sent off the files to the band manager. And it was in time for their deadline. So go me.
