Mother's Day in Days of My Destiny

This year was the first year that Mother's Day really felt like it actually was ABOUT ME. M was so so excited about Mother's Day for about 10 days leading up to it. She kept telling me things like, "We're going to do so many things for you on Mother's Day, I've made a list," or, "So on Mother's Day, don't get up until we tell you to." (LOL I think she meant they wanted me to sleep in!) Then she'd say, "I made a Mother's Day card for you at school today, but you don't even know what it says!" or, "When you get up on Mother's Day, don't make your bed because-" and then stopped short. At this Little L said, "Yeah because we're going to make your bed," and M goes, "Awwww L!!!!! You ruined the surprise!!!!!" LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
When Mother's Day finally arrived, I was woken at around 6:15am by excited foot steps stomping their way through the house, lololol. So much for a sleep in! Hahahaha. L eventually got up to help the girls get things ready and I lay in bed reading. I was really busting but was on strict orders not to get out of bed! Finally I couldn't wait any longer so I called L and asked him what I should do and he "consulted" with the girls, lol. I was allowed out of my room as long as I didn't peek. I walked passed the kitchen with my hand shielding my face. Unfortunately on the way out of the bathroom, my eyes did a quick glance (aargh!) and I saw a bunch of flowers on the kitchen table.
The thing about the flowers is that...... L used to buy me flowers on his way home from work occasionally, and it was ALWAYS such a sweet surprise. Now we live the middle of two towns that are 100kms apart. He works smack bang between the two towns and does not drive passed any florists, not even on the side of the road, on his way home. He has said before that he misses buying me flowers..... (such a sweet man!!). So when I saw them sitting there, it was like.. it took my breath away!!! But I went back to bed and stayed there until I was told to come out lol. When I came out to the kitchen table, there were pancakes waiting for me, cooked by my man, the flowers were there, with a "Happy Mother's Day" helium balloon attached, and about a thousand cards surrounding the bottom of it, and even a specially wrapped gift!!! I was so overwhelmed I started to cry!!!
The wrapped gift was a BEAUTIFUL WATCH that my husband bought for me!!! I couldn't believe it. The best part was that it was so different to what I would ever choose for myself but it suits me SO WELL!!!! That man knows me in a way that I don't even know myself!!! The thing about him buying this for me is that it is so unusual for him to buy me Things. He's never bought me anything major for Mother's Day and I've never EXPECTED anything major for Mother's Day!!!! I certainly did not marry this man for the material goods he could ever provide me, because I'm just not that kind of girl, but this was a really really nice surprise!!! I had bought myself a cheap watch months and months ago - it looked nice, even though you could tell it was a cheapie - it was silver and had a thin band. I've always gone for thin bands because I have a tiny wrist and I've always thought that a thick band would make my bony wrists stand out.... but my loving, insightful husband bought me a watch with a larger face than I would go for and a WIDE PURPLE BAND!!! And guess what - I LOVE IT!!! And not only that, it looks GREAT on me!! I've worn it everyday since I got it, lol.
We went out for lunch at a last minute request from me. We went to the "Baan Baa Pub" lol. Baan Baa is a town of about 200 people and the only open business is the pub! Back in its heyday it had all sorts of businesses and was quite the place to be - but this was back when the railway network was open throughout New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia etc, in the time of the gold mines (I think). So it was a long time ago! The pub is a nice quiet rural type of place. It is used by the miners at the end of the week. Miners also use accommodation there which is brand new. Other than these times, the pub is definitely family friendly and not a place where things get rowdy and/or stupid. There weren't many people at the pub when we got there, in fact there were only about 4 other people there - two whom we knew. It was Tom and Charlotte who had their first baby about 5 weeks ago or so and we hadn't met the baby yet. They wanted to come over on Mother's Day so we could meet bubba (they've been flooded by family before this), but come on... it's about me, so I said no. And then we bumped into them at the pub, lol. Anyway it's always slightly weird between Charlotte and I, there's never much to say really. L had wanted to sit with them for lunch, which I was slightly annoyed about, because I was thinking, "Today is not the day to use niceties and be polite and therefore put aside our private outing as a family! It's MOTHER'S DAY! It's MY day!!! And I don't want to sit with them!!!" As it was, they were there with some other people, who had presented her with gifts and things, which made me realise that if we did sit with them anyway, we'd kind of be... gate crashing. And who wants to do THAT?! Lol. Thankfully I talked L out of sitting with them. I think a part of him was annoyed but the wiser part of him understood where I was coming from ;)
(There's no way I would've got away with that had it not been Mother's Day though - it's a bit hard to simply sit somewhere else when you've bumped into a 'mate' from work and there are only 3 other people in any place around here. It's pretty obvious you're being rude/snobby. Which frankly I don't care about but L does. So that's that.)
Anyway we enjoyed lunch. The scenery from this place is beautiful. You sit at the front and it looks out onto a wide hill and houses and trees in the distance. There were 4 horses on the top of this hill and later on they slowly sauntered down the hill (if horses do that - they do now lol) to drink water from the dam there. Two of them lay down and ROLLED OVER in the water!!! I'd never seen that before!!! Then they stood up and shook the water off themselves. It was so cute. Then later on all 4 horses were playing chase, trotting and then galloping towards each other and running away. One would gain speed and be directly behind another horse, who would run up this tiny hill and buck gently. Then they'd both stop, trot back down the hill and do it all again!! It was the most BEAUTIFUL THING I've ever seen in a horse!!! I know that horses have this majestic look about them, but to see them playing so gracefully was just a whole other thing!!! It made me so happy to sit there and watch them, getting a glimpse into their secret world :)
We went home and.... I can't really remember what we did for the rest of the afternoon. L cooked dinner for me and oh I just felt SO SO SPOILED! I kept thanking him all day for spoiling me the way he did.
The thing is... he cooks a fair bit and does so much for me already. While I do appreciate it, the fact that it was Mother's Day and I got presents and flowers just really added to everything he already does!!!!
At one point the girls were fighting and bickering and L was like, "Girls! It's Mother's Day. Behave." ....and then they did, lol. I said, "I wish we could use that every day!" hahahaha.
The thing that made Mother's Day actually FEEL like a Mother's Day though was this: the fact that developmentally, my oldest child has reached a point where she can understand that it really IS a day for Mum. Up until now - even last year - she was still at that egocentric stage of development, and so it was just like aaaany other day. Whereas Mother's Day this year... it was the first day that for once there was something in return - an emotional giving back, along with an awareness that I deserve it!!!
If this is how it will be on Mother's Day from now on - then BRING. IT. ON!!!!!
Lol.
When I was tucking my children into bed, I thanked them for a wonderful Mother's Day. M said that it was a special day, all about me.
Ahhhhh. So so wonderful.

When I stayed in Gin Gin for 4 weeks, I saw the horses playing like that. It was amazing. Such a special time at that time... good memories.
