Today was the last day of school. The kids have been doing distance learning since March. For Kayla and Timmy it was the last day of school of the K-12 years. For Aaron, it was the last day of ninth grade. It is still hard to believe that in the fall, the twins will be starting at university. Aaron will be old enough to drive next May. We surprised the kids with flowers this afternoon.

School would have ended next week but they did not take a break in April. They have a drive-thru at the school next week to pick up their yearbooks. There is a space online to sign each other’s yearbooks.

Graduation is scheduled for the following week. The plan is for the students to come in at staggered times. They will be able to walk across the stage and get their diplomas, and have pictures taken.

The high school had their virtual prom. Timmy wore a tux. Kayla wore a blue and white slit dress with a blue sash. There was outdoor dining here and they each went out for dinner with a friend. So they were able to have some aspects of the traditional prom night experience. They spent part of the night here and part of the night at a friend’s place. When I peeked I saw that there was a virtual dance party.

I have to admit it was an emotional experience for me. Even though it was a virtual prom it was nerve wracking during the time they weren’t here. I am going to have to get use to that when they leave for college.

Aaron is looking forward to tenth grade. He feels he will be more prepared since he has been in high school for a year. He has gotten to know some of the kids. He is hoping to run track next year.

The kids are going to be starting summer softball and baseball. For Kayla and Timmy this will be their last year of youth ball. They didn’t get to play baseball or softball for school this spring. It is nice that they will be able to play with the kids they have played youth sports with. They are hoping to play intramurals in college. Aaron likes to play baseball. Since he runs a lot he enjoys the camaraderie of a team sport.

My work is starting to pick up. I have a somewhat full calendar for July. Kayla and Timmy have been offered jobs at the summer day camp where they worked last year. That is very helpful because jobs are hard to come by this summer. Aaron has been doing some yard work jobs.

Definitely an emotional day because it is the last day of school.
