Absolutely baffled... in Me

…by the sheer oblivion of an adult woman in my life.

For what will become obvious reasons, she shall remain nameless throughout the entirety of this entry…

A friend, of sorts, showed up on my doorstep on Saturday afternoon crying because she’s been fighting with her boyfriend (she’s got one stellar man-picker, but that’s not the point)…

It didn’t take too long for her to spit out that she’s like 3 or 4 weeks late.
I told her to go inside, grab the pregnancy test out of my medicine cabinet, and take it.

It took some convincing, but she agreed.

It was positive.

Over the course of the next few hours, I learned some things about what she believed to be true about the female body that completely baffled me.
Keep in mind that she’s 36 and has a 14-year-old daughter…

The first tidbit I learned is that she told her bf that she’d gotten on birth control so that he could finish inside her.

She straight-up lied to him.

Why did she lie?
The answer to that has many “logical” explanations…

1. She believed she was too old to get pregnant.
2. We’re only born with so many eggs, and “50-60 eggs” (the amount she thinks we’re born with) have to have been used up by her by now.
3. After successfully having her daughter, she had 2 miscarriages, so even if a pregnancy happened, it wouldn’t “stick” (even though the miscarriages weren’t full accidents).
4. She sold some of her eggs to a fertility clinic a few years ago when she was hard-up for cash. They took like 28 eggs, so that for sure wiped her out.

I’m completely amazed that she legitimately believed all these things.

And more amazed that her 14-year-old sat there nodding her head to every logical thing I was saying… How does your KID know these things but you don’t???

In any event, send prayers/good vibes/whatever to her…

She’s definitely keeping the baby.
But she makes THE WORST financial decisions of anyone I’ve ever met in my life.
AND her boyfriend already has 5 kids and 5 baby momma’s, so telling him she’s knocked up is sure to go over like a lead balloon…

Especially because she has to construct some sort of story cause he’s DEFINITELY not gonna stick around if he knows she flat-out lied to his face.
