Politics Aside in Life After 60

Politics have become a necessary evil. The sad part is as soon as the Presidental Election is over, they start running again, the day after. I am sick of the political ads. So let’s set politics aside and try to enjoy the few hours of peace before it all starts up again.
Democrats will never support a Republican President and the Republicans will never support a Democratic President, so we are stuck with the lines being drawn in the sand.
I have enjoyed many a day in the grand old south. We have a rich heritage and some not so wonderful moments. Southern hospitality was once a way of life. Now, not so much. We lock our doors and carry a 45 tucked neatly under our shirts. Seldom can we say we know our neighbors. I have lived in the same small community for 55 of my 61 years and there are folks I don’t know. My generation was the last who married, had families and stayed in our home town.
As a kid, I played outside all day. We didn’t have to worry about someone driving by and taking us. Our doors we unlocked, we knew our neighbors well and spent time on the front porch eating watermelon and running barefoot. I survived lead paint on my crib and high chair, drinking water from a garden hose or right from a creek. And I had the best days of my life. I just didn’t know it.
Stop and smell the roses.
