Orlando in Another Open Diary refugee

Went to Orlando this weekend to see our sister and brothers-in-law. Rita had her major back surgery a month ago, and she's still pretty much homebound with people coming in to give her her therapy and stuff... we sat and visited with her for a couple of hours this morning and although she's not very mobile yet she seems to be doing a LOT better than she was before the surgery. Our brother-in-law Dick took us out for an extremely expensive dinner last night at the churasco(sp?) buffet place. He takes us out to eat while we're there and he won't let us pay for meals, but they're generally a lot cheaper than this one was (he commented that our breakfast was really cheap because the bill for the three of us was under twenty bucks at the local diner. That's what I expect to pay for a meal - $10-20 a head, plus a reasonable tip.). This churasco place is in the stratosphere compared to the places John and I can afford to eat. I peeked at the docket when he was signing it and I was boggled at the total. Then he asked us what he 'owed us' for John's looking at his computer and he offered us gas money for the trip... umm... You just shelled out $200 for a meal for three (and yes, it was a very nice meal, I wouldn't mind going again, but we'd make sure to go for lunch which is about half the price... they have one of those churasco buffets in Fort Lauderdale too, but we've never been - it was on my list for 'that would be great for a special anniversary and I bet John would love all that fresh roasted red meat, but it's hideously expensive...') You don't owe us a penny! We owe YOU for your kindness... He was talking about how expensive it is to host his (adult) kids because they expect to be taken to the theme parks etc when ever they come visit... perhaps that's because he's too darned generous to them! They worm all kinds of money out of him for stuff that responsible adults should be at least TRYING to get on their own. (and because he has deep pockets they have VERY expensive tastes...) They're adults the same age as or older than me with spouses and kids of their own - if they want to go to Disney or Seaworld or wherever else the flavour of the month is, they should be paying for themselves and their kids, and him as well! Course, if I was able to go home to Australia to visit my parents, I'd be expecting a free ride, but that would be a one-time experience, not twice a year!

We'll go back again next month and next time I'll take dinner with us and we'll feed everyone a good homecooked meal. We're only two hours away now and it's a lot easier to get up there to see them than it was from Fort Lauderdale. I was still very glad to get home and stretch out though. Travelling is rough on my body. I don't think the girls even noticed we were gone... looks like they were all good kitties while we were away. Zho-Zho peed on the dust pan again (and on the broom I stood in it to try to block her access and discourage her bad habit) but it's not the end of the world. It was a VERY cheap broom and it was due for replacement anyway. Aside from that, it looks like all was quiet.
