An acquaintance, KK, has had a lot of problems with his church scheduling activities during the rare free time he has on weekends (he's in the army at the moment), and he missed a major photoshoot he'd been planning for because they informed him the day before that he absolutely had to be at an event that they promised would end at noon (and didn't).
The latest in the saga:
KK: So the church said I have to next time tell that I have others plan in one month in advance so they can plan when to meet so I won't have to go thought yesterday again.
Me: Because they are totally going to rearrange their plans to suit you and it is not a way for them to find out what you're up to at all.
Me: Why do they even think you're stupid enough to fall for that?
And you know the best part? He's not going to leave. He's just going to accept yet another set of shackles on his soul, because being a member of this church is, in his mind, part of his identity.
And the thing we fight the hardest for is our identity. To that end, we will abandon all else: family, friends, and even those we say we love.
