July:

Touch - Courtney Maum

Very interesting book. Seemed futuristic but wasn’t set in the future. I enjoyed the writing style and also it’s commentary on society as a whole. Recommend. I liked it better than the first book that I read by her.

High Heat - Lee Child

Short story. Typical Jack Reacher!

Her Every Fear - Peter Swanson

It was good. I read it in a day but it was nowhere near as good as the other book of his that I read (The Kind Worth Killing).

One True Loves - Taylor Jenkins Reid

Again, read in one day. I did this primarily because it was an easy read and I am behind in my book challenge. Premise was very interesting. Execution fell a little flat for me. Too much exposition. The characters, particularly the two men ended up feeling false to me as a result. People always complain that men don’t know how to write women. But women shouldn’t write men as women.

The Child - Fiona Barton

Very good book. I liked it a bit better than the first novel of hers that I read (The Widow) and the reviews on goodreads do reflect that sentiment as well. There is some carry over of characters but you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy this one.

The River at Night - Erica Ferencik

Some issues with the book but overall it was a great, suspenseful read. Will I ever go river rafting now? Probably not. RECOMMEND!

Total: 25 books + 4 short stories

I felt the same about One True Loves! I enjoyed it, and I read it in a day, but it fell flat for me too.

I couldn't get into The Widow! I'll have to check out The Child!

We read some of the same authors, I see.

I’ve read many of the same books. I read much more than I did when I was still working.
