Thoughts on Drinking in General

I enjoy a couple of drinks to take the edge off, i have traditionally enjoyed a little bit more than that. my wife and i even met at a bar years ago, so drinking a little bit has always been a part of our relationship.

As the years have gone by, however, we have grown up. We have two amazing children that are now in school and we only get a couple of hours a day with them. As such, i have all but stopped drinking.

I will have a beer at lunch every once in a while, especially when i am working off-site. I feel guilty about it. But it is my quiet time where i don’t need to be a dad or a husband or a boss or working in general, i just get to sit there and have a beer.

My wife is not working right now and when i get home from work, she is usually working away at dinner while the kids are watching their 30 daily minutes of tv. I really appreciate that my wife makes dinner 5 - 6 days a week because i am usually exhausted at the end of the day and don’t normally get home until around 6 on weekdays.

Before kids, that was her go to and we would have one or two bottles when going out for dinner or having a nicer dinner at home.

What concerns me now, and i don’t know if it should, is the fact that she likes to drink wine while cooking. Which means that she is having a glass while cooking and often that turns to a second one after i get home. She is very defensive about it and gets super angry if i bring it up, and i don’t know what to do. I don’t even know if it is actually a problem. it isn’t like she is getting drunk or anything, but i just worry about her and why she feels she needs to drink every day.

should i be concerned?
if so, what can/should i do?
* i am more just throwing these questions out into the aether as a definition of my dilemma, rather that specifically asking for any help, but if you have thoughts on this (not sure how this whole thing works), then please share.

I will write again sometime soon about her history and possibly ask for more advice, but that isn’t (directly) related to alcohol.

thanks for listening
