Oh yes, that whimsical Steve Winwood and his lyrical phrases. But what he doesn’t mention is what to do when you have such a fear of rejection or failure that you can’t take the chance.
I was one of those weird guys who in high school suddenly developed a complex that would not allow me to talk to girls. Not like the one Raj Koothrappali had during the first few seasons of The Big Band Theory. I could talk to the ones I wasn’t interested in. It was the ones who caused my heart to skip a beat that brought on selective mutism.
Now here is the strange part. I never had a girl that I got up the courage to ask out ever say no. Not bragging and believe me there weren’t that many that I asked. But I never asked out the two girls I really wished I had. They were out of my league.
As I have grown older, I have learned you have to take the chance when you get it. And I have heard no on more than one occasion. But I guess I have matured enough where I realize it is a part of life. So they don’t want to go out with me. Not to sound too conceded but hey it’s their loss. I might just be the last frog they have to kiss!
