Well, the toilets are fixed... we hope! The poor maintenance guy had to come out three times because he had the wrong parts. He's coming back on Monday to fix the window (he had to get different parts for that too) and if he has time the new part for the oven arrived today so we can get that fixed too... Silver hid under the bed covers while he was here... she's realised that it's warm and cosy in there and nobody can see her so she's 'safe' unless we come and lay on her. You have to check for bedlumps before sitting because she can make herself VERY flat. lol
The chest freezer was delivered on Wednesday. The cord wasn't quite long enough for where I wanted to put it, so I bought an extension cord and tucked it into the corner of the kitchen between the table and the wall. I'm just not going to use the other freezer except to do the actual freezing - it's way too hard to get into and it doesn't hold enough. Lean Cuisines were on sale at Publix this weekend so I bought ten of them and stuck them in the bottom of the chest freezer... we'll have to get to BJs and stock up on meat in the near future.
John took me to the GoodWill and Salvation Army thrift stores today but we didn't find any furniture... there was a lovely tv armoire and matching corner display shelf in GoodWill and I would have been willing to pay the price but it was a bit older and John said it was too small for our tv. It was built when a 24" tv was relatively 'big', not for the monstrous flat screens people have nowadays. Ours are only 32" but still... we'll just have to keep looking.
Furniture I want to buy:
- - a sturdy chest/bench for the end of the bed so we can sit down to dress. (a chest is also blanket/pillow storage so we don't have to rummage around in the winter...)
- - matching bedside tables with or without a headboard (we've got a headboard but it's nothing to write home about - I rescued it from the dumpster.)
- - a tv armoire for the bedroom to get the tv off the top of the (broken) dresser and have space to neatly stow away all the electronics that seem to have taken over every available flat space in the bedroom.
- - some kind of storage for the craftroom to make up for the two desks we gave up.
- - a desk top/old door to turn the matched cabinets into a usable table.
- - two bookshelves from Staples to make the two we already have in the living room into a full-wall shelving unit. Need to go to the store to colour-match because I can't remember what colour ours actually are.
- - possibly a free-standing pantry cupboard for the kitchen... I don't like the food storage as-is. It's too broken up and hard to remember where everything is. But since we got the freezer we might not have anywhere to put one.
And for outside I'd like some proper garden ornaments, a bird bath, a free-standing bird feeder, basic garden tools, and plants to put in the (empty) front bed. Plus I'd love to pave the area in front of the house where they have grotty old white stones, string a shadecloth between the privacy fence and the eaves, and put nice potted plants in there.
