My sponcee, John called, and wanted to talk about his son. I had him come on over for coffee and we chatted at the kitchen island.
His son has mild learning problems and also slight autistic signs. The boy is 15 and a sophomore in high school. Last Wednesday morning John found that the boy had been awake nearly all night with a panic attack about school. He is new to the school after transferring. He had to transfer due to now living with his father and that put him in a new school distric.
The new school staff has impressed John well and he has a high regard for the department head. John wanted my opinion on making an appointment with the educator and I endorsed it. I have met his son and found him bright and very interested in history. I think that can be traced his love of video games.
What John really wanted I think was reassurance that he is doing the right things for his son. I told him that I believe he is and reminded him that there are no classes for parenting or for living with your parents. We agreed that seeing John sober and dependable day after to day is a positive that should go a long way in helping his sons anxiety.
The snow storm so far here has been mild with only an inch falling. I feel very lucky in that regard and I was able to drive into work this morning at 754 % normal speed and 30 %m normal traffic volume.
